Current Events First Listen Impressions


1. Faizoff-Riverside  Pretty good, but this will have to grow on me.

2. Lethean-Tesseract  It’s both herky jerky and groovy at the same time.

3. Ariich-Edu Falaschi It’s power metal. I like power metal.

4. This is going to have to grow on me I think.

5. Unfortunately, I gave up on this album before I got to this song. My mistake.

6. This has a big 70’s Black Sabbath vibe to it.

7. Doesn’t hit me right off, but I could see this growing.

8. Not sure I could do a whole album with these vocals.

9. Stadler-Rival Sons The singer treads a dangerous line between Paul Rogers and…Chris Cornell.

10. Lonestar-Ov Sulfer  Lots to chew on here that I cannot do in one listen.

11. I kept thinking that if this were an instrumental, it’d be a contemporary proggy porn soundtrack.

12. This is kind of spacey.

13. Wow, that was really epic.

14. That was actually pretty nice.

15. A bit mid tempo and those vocals are going to have to grow on me.

So, as you all can tell, there's a lot of impressions that mention growth and/or potential. It's just an overwhelming feeling I got after hearing most of the songs just one time. Was just thinking things like, "I hope this grows on me".

I don't know if this is an overall weak round or not, but other than a few exceptions, most of these songs are either slow, mid-tempo, or mellow. It's like everyone sent the same song almost.

However in this round, I feel like I'll be building my Stack from the top down, as opposed to pretty much every other round from the bottom up.

Yeah, Puppies and Luke thought you might struggle with the vocals when I played it for them.  Hopefully the rest of the impression is, "...but the rest of the song is so awesome I can put up with them for a song or two!"
