Hey, let's get everyone's favorite TV show theme songs listed.

What is your favorite TV show theme song, and why is it the WKRP in Cincinnati opener?
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

It’d be a long list of Mike Post themes from the 80’s.

The Adventures of Pete and Pete had a pretty good banger of an intro.

Did we say That 70s Show already?

And definitely the Cheap Trick version and not the first season version (although that had a certain charm to it as well)

I also like the sped up “punkier…grrl riot” version on That 90s Show.

X-Men: The Animated Series.

You're welcome.

Yes! Just watched the whole series with my daughter over the past couple of months.  Loved this show growing up and the theme song is amazing.  Can't wait for the new X-Men '97 show.

Been watching a lot of Friends lately, and that song is so damn catchy.  The Rembrandts wrote a perfect fit for that show.

Another one is Unsolved Mysteries.  That one creeped me out as a kid.

A few of these I haven't heard, but overall, awesome choices thus far!

I can honestly say I have actively put on both "That '70s Show" (Cheap Trick) and "The Theme From Dukes of Hazard" (Waylon Jennings) as songs to hear them as songs.

Personally I'd rule out any theme that uses a pre-established song. Or else you're just picking popular songs you like.

For instrumental, symphonic themes, that one is VERY good.

I will go to my grave thinking the opening to The A-Team is the greatest television opening theme/sequence ever. You get the synopsis of the show in 68 words, words every boy who grew up in the 80s should have memorized. Then a bombastic theme plays over clips from the show, setting you up for the quintessential 80s action you are about to experience. I also love what they did with the theme in Season 5, with the drum intro and clips from the trial episodes, before the new version of the theme kicks in.

What is your favorite TV show theme song, and why is it the WKRP in Cincinnati opener?

The WKRP in Cincinnati opening theme is indeed good. Not the subject of the thread, but the ending theme is the greatest song played over closing credits in the history of television.

I came here to say the same thing. As much as I love the opening, there are days when I would say the closing credits were even better.

EDIT - I learned a fun fact about that song a few months ago. Apparently they were originally supposed to write some lyrics for that song and the gibberish that you hear was a demo recording that was intended to just be a guide vocal for the melody. But they ended up not being able to think of any lyrics and liking the guide vocals so much that they just left it.
