A new thought. GET TREVOR freakin RABIN on the bill!  His new album Rio is fantastic and would be a perfect fit. Think about it, that would help create a nice turnout at the shows and all the guys in DT have mad respect for the guy..  That would be one heck of a show. One can dream right..  💫

Of course one can only wonder if this happens again with MP, but I honestly think MP having input on the bands might be a good thing. Not that Devin was a bad choice, he was awesome, but MP knows a lot of people, maybe he could pull in some really interesting bands that otherwise might not have been possible without him involved.

I'd say TEMIC is the most likely candidate. Haken too, but not at the same time

However... with the reunion just announced, a new album next year and their 40th anniversary the year after that, I don't think we'll see the return of DreamSonic anytime soon.

At this point, DT no longer needs Dreamsonic.  Hopefully it just goes by the wayside.

If not Dramsonic, Trevor Rabin would be a great co-headline act. I do like the idea of Temic being a good opener for DT though. Would also like to see Eric Gillette do some of his solo stuff from The Great Unknown.

I recently discovered Nospūn

so, them!

It was mentioned at the end of the official press release that there will be more Dreamsonic tours.
"...On their 15th full-length and second studio release for InsideOutMusic / Sony Music, A View From The Top Of The World the band continue to challenge themselves and push their musical envelope – something they have done for over 30-years performing together. The band recently wrapped the inaugural DREAMSONIC Tour – a traveling progressive music spectacle that will return for more runs in the future."

Yeah but I'm sure that was thought up and written before they planned to have Portnoy back. Things have changed.

The Portnoy press release is the only place where I've seen it officially mentioned that it would return so I'm not sure. Why bother saying that if it's not going to? I've heard it being said in interviews that they'd like to do more.

I could see them doing 'An Evening With' tour to start off however.

Mosh

I was surprised to see any mention of Dreamsonic in the press release. Seems intentional and probably means it's going to happen again. Didn't they want to take it to Europe? I wonder if that's next.

EPIC Outro

I personally loved DreamSonic. I would never want it to replace An Evening With, but I think it is a great summer event that I hope continues. I didn't even mind the shorter DT set in that context.

Same here!
I think a shorter set is good these days especially for the preservation of JLB'S vocals.  Dreamsonic was a blast last summer and if it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't be following Devin Townsend like I am now.  :metal

Mike Portnoy will just add fuel to the attendance of these shows in the next round.

They never have, but it's something that they want to do, so it probably will happen again, although I'd wager with the "Progressive Nation" tag again, since MP took that with him when he split (which is why MM-era DT came up with the name DreamSonic). The only thing that could prevent it is if it financially takes a loss or breaks even. From what I've read about attendance during plenty of the DreamSonic shows, it doesn't sound like it was well attended. And given that post-COVID it's become more costly to tour, I can see DT dropping the multi-band bill for good and sticking with one opener or just doing Evening With gigs.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
