I’m with you on that. The last few roulettes I’ve tried, I’ve set up as head-to-head or pools formats so that I’m ranking songs comparatively rather than trying to give absolute scores, which I find impossible to do without feeling like I’m assigning them arbitrarily. (Of course, my other problem is that I get burned out after 3-4 rounds, which is why I probably won’t do any more roulettes.)

I've used other scoring systems in the past but I always felt like the scores just didn't reflect my opinions very well. Like, a 1 point difference could be between submissions nearly identical in quality or worlds apart.

Yeah, there are advantages and disadvantages to each system, but while no matter how you do it the lowest scoring few are going to feel disappointed, the advantage of a more absolute system is that over time you build up a sense of relative scale and you can see that while sometimes scores might be lower, they aren't always actually that low, and you can see when the top songs are truly outstanding and not just "really good".

I'm trying to figure out why you would think this though.  If anything it's more artificially limited, unless you're the type of person who prefers music of the past decade or so above anything else.  Like, I'm sure there's tons of great music you haven't heard from the early 10s, the 00s, or even possibly earlier, but the songs in this roulette don't even have to compete with those, even though some somewhat older songs could be superior.

I forget the context, but the name just didn't resonate with me on whatever day it came up. I think I reread the drop, and it still didn't make sense.


I mean, Spencer For Hire was based in Boston too, and I couldn't tell you one character's name in the show. Well, Spencer...but not his last name.


I liked Cheers well enough, but it was never a favorite show, honestly. There really wasn't one likeable character on it.

Went back to work Tuesday and my wife's car died, had Open House Wednesday til 8 so I went straight to bed, the dryer died yesterday. A semi-busy work turned into chaos. Thanks man. Today was amazing, the 1 year old finally slept for 12 hours for the first time ever (slept almost 14 hours). It was so strange waking up at 7:30 and my wife and two kids were still sleeping!

Guys, I want to give a few extra days for this round. Things should be settled for me now to get back into a groove. Aiming for Tuesday results. No first impressions this round as I have listened to all the songs at least 4 times by now.
