A recent update   https://www.cbsnews.com/news/canadian-wildfires-under-control-what-to-know/

We recently visited NYC to see the Freddie Mercury exhibit at Sotheby's.  Did various Big Apple things, rode the subway for the first time since the pandemic, and finally rode the Staten Island Ferry.  Great view of downtown Manhattan.  A few days later, the pictures on the news were incredible.  The city was barely visible from the ferry.

Baltimore was affected a few days later.

Visited Chicago over the weekend.  Two days later, their air quality was the worst in the nation. The upper half of the towers of the Mackinac Bridge were hidden. Now we're getting it again, to where it is so noticeable again in our house so much that I can smell and taste it. We wore masks when outdoors today, had the air circulating in the car....  and we're the lucky ones.

Heading to Philly Saturday for Dreamsonic.  Packing a mask just in case.

How are things in your neck of the woods?

For a change it's crystal clear in San Francisco... I'll check back when our wildfire season kicks in in August.

Also...everyone keep my niece and her fiance in their thoughts, they're both US Forest Service Firefighters and are on the front lines in Canada. :heart

This was downtown Chicago on Tuesday, looking out of the office that I work in.  Grey and smoggy.  When I got home to my house in the suburbs that afternoon, you could see the smoke hanging around the treetops, which was really weird.  Visibility was down to 3/4 of a mile.

My daughter's summer camp has kept the kids indoors for the last 2 days, lest an asthmatic kid have an issue and they get sued over it.  Sucks for my kid, but we can't control the weather or how a business responds to it.

I'm in the far West suburbs of Chicago and it has been weird. Tuesday it smelled like a campfire outside all day. Wednesday the haze was even worse but the smell was mostly gone. Like Grapp said, the smoke was low to the ground which was very weird. Today the haze is still around but not as bad.

My wife has lung issues so she has been wearing an N95 mask when she has had to go out.

We've got a little but in CT today, but nothing close to what we were seeing and smelling a few weeks ago. After two days or so my eyes were in a state of constant burning and watering. It looked stoned out of my mind everywhere I went.

Smells like a backyard barbecue in southern Ontario.  jingle.daughter said she heard something about the haze being seen in France.  :omg:

I empathize with the folks dealing with this. Over the past 10 years, that's a typical view in late summer for Oregon and California. Often lasts for weeks.

Hoping this crap clears up soon for you all!

Yeah, sometimes the annual CA crap makes it to the east as well, but not like this.

I'll never forget one day, around early 9/2020, where it was literally orange outside. It was so hazy and dark that you had to drive with headlights on at 1pm, like it was a heavy fog day. It was horrible.

Found an image...this is not edited in any way, shape or form...and this is literally midday.

I had thought it was over, but I guess not  :-[

I'm in Philadelphia and the air definitely is of poor quality right now. I had to take my inhaler

Coming to you live from North Carolina. It is quite smoky here as well.

Shit dude, we were dying here the past couple of days.  Can't open the windows because of the air quality, couldn't turn the AC because of all the renovation dust in the ducts.  Thankfully, the latter were just cleaned yesterday, so I can finally get the house under 80F.

Morning of the Boston DreamSonic concert (which is outdoors) and the air quality index is 154. :| Hoping it clears out in the evening.
