Whatever that sound is, it has to be intentional? It kind of sounds like The Bird flapping his wings :)

I just listened to it again, and if you really crank it, I hear it almost from the start of the track before even the :06 mark. It becomes slightly more pronounced at the :11 mark and then continues all the way until the full band kicks in just past :30-ish.

It's also audible on the Spotify version.

Yeah this, totally. And if not flapping than at least the pitter patter of an animal.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I just wish it didn’t sound so exactly like when a CD lens is dirty or misaligned.

My brain keeps telling me “this is a sound I know well, and it’s not supposed to be there!”  But it’s possible that the intent was what you guys are saying.

It's surely not an audio fault. Sorry, I just don't get how something so obvious would be a fault. It has to be an added sound to add atmosphere or something...

Well, I saw 'em last night at Milkboy in Philly.

To start, OK Goodnight are great live. They played about half of the new album, interlaced with old stuff. I hadn't heard the old stuff, but it actually sounded really good, so looking forward to checking that out now. Everyone sounded great - Casey Williams is phenomenal live, as are the band. The new touring guitarist doesn't miss a step.

LOTS of anime fans in the audience. I saw a lot more RWBY shirts than I saw shirts of any other prog/metal bands. I did spot a few Dream Sonic tees in the audience - I was wearing my Devin shirt.

My one complaint was out of anyone's control. It was fucking HOT in the room. Like a sauna. And too many opening bands. Show started at 7:30, and OK Goodnight did not start performing until 10:45 or so. I had to leave a bit early (I think the 2nd to last song) because I have work today and the train schedules in Philly get real sparse after midnight. Plus I was already pretty hot and tired from standing for 4 hours in the heat.

Still, so glad I was able to see the band in such a small room. Hopefully it's only up from here, and I'll always cherish the memory of seeing this exciting new band in such an intimate setting.

I'm so glad I took that pic. I was afraid to be seen with my camera, but I took it early in the afternoon. I so regret not getting any DT pics. I was just too afraid to get busted.

So I'm sure most of you heard about the sudden passing of Animals as Leaders guitar tech on the Dreamsonic tour last week. Dream Theater just posted a Gofundme with this pic of him...makes me wonder if he was affiliated with OK Goodnight in any way or if he was just a fan sporting their merch...

Do they have any mention of him on their social media?

OK Goodnight didn't say anything as of yet, they've been mostly posting about their tour. I did tag them in DT's instagram post out of curiosity

I heard back from OK Goodnight, it seems Dave's band Chuggernaut opened for the at the release show for this album just last month. So damn heartbreaking.

Oh wow. That’s so sad. I’m a little surprised that they didn’t say anything on their page. But maybe they just didn’t know him that well. I’m still curious as to whether they saw that picture that got circulated with him in their swag.

Gave this album a nice dedicated listen last night for the first time in weeks.

An incredible album, really a submersive experience.

What really stood out to me this time was just how great the drumming is on this. Man, that kid is incredible.
Not sure how a bunch of college kids were able to out an album this good, and have the production and sound that it has.

Off-topic, but what do you do during dedicated listens exactly? I am trying to find a good way to do that. Just laying in bed? Taking a long walk? Playing video games? Pretty interested in what you or others do.

I sat on my couch DTFing and had random baseball and college football games on TV last night.

I don't do video games. ;D

My ideal would be in bed with good earbuds/headphones. But as is, it’s on my trip to work. Noise cancelling good quality ear buds and a nearly 1 hour trip on the train is a decent way to listen.

This is really a very special album. I still spin it on the regular. I hope this band continues with this level of incredible quality.

As far as my listening, I pretty much do my immersive listens while driving. My commute is about 40 minutes in the morning and about 50 minutes (or more depending on traffic) in the afternoon. In that time, I’m usually able to get most or all of an album. And if I leave it in on repeat for a week, I’m able to sink my teeth into it pretty well. The Fox and the Bird probably spent two straight weeks in my CD player before I finally added the album to my shuffle and switched back to my music player.  (Although the last 2 days have been dedicated to Live Subterranea by IQ)

I've got a really decent living room audio system, so for me it'd just be sitting on the couch listening to that at a good volume.

my music player.

I was almost going to say something, but I wondered if someone else would.

It doesn’t seem right to call it an MP3 player since I only play FLACs

When I do a fully dedicated listen to an album, I listen to it on my screened-in porch with a cigar and a glass of bourbon.  No other activities.

But those are kind of rare.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

What are Grados?

It's a brand of headphones..they range from around a c-note to over 2k a pair. Mine are around 300 and are beyond amazing, they're open ended so the sound has a more open room feel to it.

Which ones do you have?  I have a bit of a headphone collection, and I have the SR325is among others.  They sound great, but they're not nearly as comfortable for longer periods of time so I don't use them that much.
