Both talented guys, of course.

Blake Richardson is on my list at #15.  For all of the technical stuff he does, he's got a great feel and I love his drum sound, especially from Parallax onwards.  Watching him on this video clinched it for me: https://youtu.be/T97Fxjhqz-E

Bill Ward didn't make my list, and honestly, he didn't even cross my mind.  I've never been into Sabbath, though I respect their place in history.  So far, I'm 1 for 4.

25. Maybe?
24. Possibly maybe? Probably not.

0-2 today as well. I listened to some BTBAM for one of TAC’s roulettes and the drums did stand out to me, but otherwise not into the band at all and couldn’t have named the drummer.

Not into Sabbath and don’t know enough of their material to rate Ward as a drummer.

25   Reasonable chance, depending.
24   No chance in hell; there are other drummers IN HIS BAND that might, though.
23   He's either going to be in someone's top ten or not on the list, so probably won't make the final.
22   No chance. I might take some crap for this one.
21   No chance; most people won't know who he is.
20   No chance.
19   No chance (part of what will possibly be the only "father/son" pair on anyone's list)
18   No chance, due to this band being a pariah around here.
17   60-40 he makes it.
16   Probably no chance, but a crying shame.  The man is a mule.
15.   Slim chance; he is arguably my vote for best drummer in his genre, though there's another guy that gets all the press.
14   One of three guys from a certain band to make my list; probably won't make the final.
13   90% lock
12   100% lock
11   Slim chance; the other guy who replaced him has a better shot.
10   Should be a 100% lock; this forum?  50-50 at best.
9   Cozy Powell
8   No. 11's "other guy".   Should be 70-30 to make it.
7   Sadly, no chance.
6   Bill Ward
5   SHOULD BE 100% lock.
4   100% lock
3   100% lock
2   100% lock
1   100% lock and my guess for Number One overall.

NR:  Gene Hoglan
NR:  Blake Richardson; I'm sure he's good but the band does nothing for me, so he's not on my radar.

So, this was my guess for Bill Ward:  "Probably no chance; he's a pale shell of his former self, but some of his early live work is incendiary."

You've got to find the video that's out there of the "Live In Paris" show from 1970 (I think it's actually from Brussels, but the title is Paris).   Bill Ward is on FIRE.  He is a MACHINE in that video.  Sabbath is known as the fathers of heavy metal, and Iommi is certainly a part of that, but Bill Ward was NOT a plodding metal drummer.  Like Lee Kerslake later (with Ozzy) and patently UNLIKE Vinnie Appice with Dio (and Sabbath), Ward was almost a Jazzer.  He brought so much to the early Sabbath sound that WASN'T "boom, boom BAP!" metal, I think he's a large part of why so many think the "Ozzy" era was something special, and why perhaps "13" didn't necessarily rate with the best of the Ozzy material.

Also, his work on the debut and on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is to be noted as well.

The problem, though, is Bill lost it later through a combination of physical and substance problems.

22 - Blake Richardson

23 - Bill Ward

Never heard of Blake Richardson...googling...I vaguely recall Between the Buried... on one of the Prog Nation bills, but we walked out laughing to get a beer as soon as the "singer" opened his mouth, so I wouldn't have noticed anything about the drummer.

Bill Ward, of course, is a legend.  If Tony Iommi invented metal, Bill Ward was his not-so-silent partner.  Ward's drumming was both understated and complex, with a groove that many metal drummers lacked.  I had him at #9.

25   Maybe...not sure
24   Probably not
23   I'd say 60-70% chance no
22   Probably
21   Probably not
20   Probably not
19   90% yes
18   Nein
17   Absolutely should be, but I'm thinking less than 50/50
16   Nope
15   Not even a little chance
14   No way, eh
13   90+% yes
12   Not a chance
11   Nope
10   I think yes, only about 60% sure
9   Bill Ward (Should be...75+% likely)
8   75+% likely
7   Cozy Powell (50/50)
6   Hmmm...really not sure, but I think less than 50/50
5   Same band as #8 - one of them should make it, if not both
4   90+% yes
3   Lock
2   Might sneak in around 21-25
1   Lock for top 3

I'm 1/4 so far, as I had Gene Hoglan at #19.

I hadn't considered the others as I'm a casual Ward fan, didn't know who Cozy was and although I'm a fan of BtBaM, I couldn't have told you the drummers name.

Never heard of Blake Richardson. I find BtBaM to be pretty overrated, so that's not a surprise. And while I'm a huge Sabbath fan, I've never really gotten the appeal of Bill Ward.

Had a brief period of getting into BTBAM and then they fell off hard for me for some reason.  I should probably revisit them again sometime.  Super talented guy regardless.  Given that the other modern prog metal flagbearers on guitar didn't come close to making the guitarist list, I was surprised to see Blake.

Surprised in the opposite direction for Ward.  Given the the types of guys who did well in the guitarist list, I would have thought he'd have been higher.  I'm way too casual a Sabbath fan to have given him much consideration.

The vocalist and guitarist lists had some surprised for me, but nothing egregiously shocking (other than Hetfield in the Top 10 and Hammett as a no-show).

Tim, I'm kinda with you. I find the harsh vocals in BtBaM to be the weakest link and the main sticking point for me being able to love the band. Like, everything else is awesome, but those harsh vocals do absolutely zero for me.

23 - Bill Ward
Appeared on 8 of 28 lists
Highest Finish: 6 (Stadler)
4 Top 10 Finishes

Wow! 2 for 2 today.

Bill Ward - I didn't send in a predictive text list but my comment for Bill was 'a legend but not sure of his popularity here'. I really don't think Ozzy Sabbath gets much love on this forum so wasn't sure we would see Bill. Those first few Sabbath albums are Bill at his best. To even have someone above say they have never heard of him is mindblowing to me. Anyway I ranked Bill at number 7.

Blake Richardson - this is a real surprise. I didn't think we would see Blake even though he is absolutely incredible. Just so creative. I know his band isn't for everyone but there are a number of youtube clips of his playing that are worth a look if drumming is your thing. I ranked Blake 9.

I have no idea who Blake Richardson is.

Didn't you have a Between the Buried and Me round in a previous roulette? How did they land with you? Can't remember

Oh ok, he's the BB&M guy...yes, he's a beast.

How did they land? Musically awesome, but the harsh vocals are really rough for me. Unlistenable, actually. I busted out Parallax I last week and gave them another try. They're a just miss band for me.

Tim, I'm kinda with you. I find the harsh vocals in BtBaM to be the weakest link and the main sticking point for me being able to love the band. Like, everything else is awesome, but those harsh vocals do absolutely zero for me.

And it's specific to him, I know people who love harsh vocals who still can't stand his.  :lol

That's where I am with BTBAM. He irks me more than most but I love his clean singing voice.
