Ours - Ours (2021)
« on: May 07, 2009, 01:30:15 PM »
Fans?..they released a pretty well received album last year in "Mercy" and their other 2 albums are also favorites of mine, especially "Distorted Lullabies."

Well a new album from them and solo record from Jimmy Gnecco is anticipated for 2009 as well.

But in the mean time, a couple of cool things have popped up of late about them.

check this out. "Ran Away To Tell the World" was used on the CBS show NCIS last night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi9Uek1pBUQ

And for People who dig the director of the recent Ours videos, Michael Maxxis, and the band of course might be interested in the fact

https://communities.canada.com/edmontonjournal/blogs/pluggedin/archive/2009/04/21 /david-carradine-challenges-you.aspx

Jimmy Gnecco is going to be starring in an 8minute short film directed by Maxxis and also starring David Carradine!

I just checked them out a month ago. Acquired their album Mercy, pretty good stuff overall. The first track gets to me the most, and great production too. Rick Rubin right?
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

yeah, Rick Rubin did produce their last album (technically, he really didn't do all that much actually).

they did open for Manson last year, but I can't stress enough how much better and  different it is seeing them HEADLINE when they can play the surreal, trippy jams to some of their songs. Hell, I PERSONALLY JOINED THEM ON STAGE TO PLAY DRUMS FOR 1 SONG .

https://tinyurl.com/5prm6w

but that NEVER would have happened if they were opening for Manson, Blue October, Circa Survive, or anyone else.

2 of the 2 hours+ headlining shows they played in Minnesota the last couple of years were 2 of the greatest concert experiences of my life, no question.

Same here, I wasn't impressed. I remember thinking Ours is what would happen if U2 and Stabbing Westward had a love child.
HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!  THIS is why LHK is the President of Awesome.

Why is everything you post the best thing ever said?  :lol

Stabbing Westward, lol..that band sucks.

Until you claim to have seen them HEADLINE, your opinion to me about their live shows is MOOT. It's not even close to the same thing.

Jimmy Gnecco just set up a new website, is headed to Europe for the 1st time ever, and just completed work on his 1st solo album.

Hello…
Category: Uncategorized / Tag: bright antenna, european tour, jimmy gnecco, ours / Add Comment

God, it’s been years since I’ve taken the time to write an entry in a private or public diary. The last years have passed like days. It seems like the days and years get shorter and shorter as life goes on. I’m just spending a few days unwinding from an intense recording and touring schedule that I’ve kept. I need a moment to take in all that has happened in life. I am deeply saddened by the passing of Michael Jackson, and David Carradine, plus a family pet.

On a different note, I have finally recorded a solo record that I have been putting off for years. What an amazing process. I signed a deal with a new small label called Bright Antenna, and so far it feels like we have accomplished certain goals that we have been working towards for years. As of now, I’ve completed fifteen songs. These songs and recordings have beyond exceeded what I had hoped for, which is rare for me. I played all of the instruments and produced this one myself, so it was a really liberating, fun process.

In addition to a new label, I have hired new management, a new agent, and a publicist. If you’re reading this than you probably know that I’m finally going to Europe, finally. This is something that we’ve tried to do for years, but have never had the support to do. No shows in Italy, Spain, Australia, or France yet, but we will do all we can to change that as well.

A note to any European fans…I plan on playing a few Ours songs as well, so if there are any specific ones that you would like to hear, just let me know.

I’m going to write entries in this diary as much as I can. In the meantime, thank you all for your love over the years. I hope that life is treating you all well. We go around one time. Make it the best it can be. You all deserve it.

Much Love,
Jimmy

?? i was referring to asking the other dude what made Ours headlining different from opening, I mean no disrespect. they were pretty good when I saw them open, if something actually does make them somehow better headlining I would probably check them out.

Brakkum,
Sorry, I may have misread your post's direction. You were talking to LeeHarveyKer?

But nobody else in this topic has mentioned the headlining thing vs the opening thing besides me.

But I was bumping this topic, primarily to pass the news about Jimmy Gnecco's new solo album. For the fans out there, live and studio, it's something to look forward to I would think.

I still haven't heard Mercy, but I got their first two albums for a dollar each. Distorted Lullabies was good, Precious was average.

Precious isn't as good as Distorted Lullabies. Mercy, is by some, better than both. Personally, DL is one of my favorite albums of all-time. I've played it to death over the last 4 years. But Mercy, from last year, was more of what Ours sound like now anyway.

Precious, however, over some time, has grown on me a lot. It still has a couple of tracks I don't love, but given the way it was rushed to come out, and how the band themselves were not all that happy with it, even putting a cover song (The Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale") which was entirely done based on pressure from the record label at the time. It still has it's value, and like many cases, when you enjoy a band, their worst work can often have reason for revisiting.

Precious did have some tracks I really enjoyed (I still have Realize, Leaves, Disaster in a Halo and Red Coloured Stars), but a lot seemed filler-ish.

Whereas Distorted Lullabies is pretty good start to finish, and the first half is REALLY good.

Distorted lullabies is a fantastic album! Fallen souls is ridiculously awesome.
"Once he had forests and mountains that were only his - listening to him. Once he would run through the summer days catching memories for ages to come. Now he is dressing this naked floor with his flesh and blood, and time passes by. His trade of pain might just have lead him to deal with consequence for some change as time passes by"

Looking forward to listening to this today. Ours is a little hit and miss for me. At their best they are fantastic, but they're often just OK.

EDIT: After first listen, I am definitely liking this album. One of their best. It'll take a few more listens to know for sure where it falls.
