2 on 2 Poll # 1: Maiden vs Queensryche
« on: April 06, 2023, 06:38:31 PM »
I thought this could be a fun series to do.

As both bands here had releases in 1986 and 1988, all of which seem pretty highly regarded by the fans, I thought this was a natural matchup with which to begin.

I will take 'Ryche.  Even though Somewhere in Time is my favorite Maiden album now, Seventh Son, which I do like a lot, wouldn't make my top 5 by the band.  Meanwhile, Rage and Mindcrime are my 2nd and 3rd favorites by Queensryche, so they get the nod.

I probably hold SiT and RFO held in equally high regard.

On the other hand you have a very good album in Seventh Son going up against one of my five favorite albums of all time in Mindcrime. So QR wins this fight.

It’s close, not crazy about Rage For Order or Somewhere in Time, but I go back to SIT a lot more. Operation Mindcrime is the best of the bunch, but I would rather have both Maiden albums instead of just Mindcrime.

QR.  Mindcrime is one of the best albums of all time, and Rage is excellent as well.  While I adore SiT, Seventh Son is awful, so it's an easy decision.  Different albums from these same bands might have had a very different outcome.

Fun comparison, Kev.

would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Rage for Order is the best of all 4. Somewhere in Time is the least.

This is not close. IMs catalog is much stronger, but putting one of their so-so albums (SIT) and one of their slightly stronger but still mid-tier albums against two of the greatest and most groundbreaking albums in metal history isn’t fair.

If the IM albums were NOTB and POM (their 3rd and 4th) it would have been much harder.

Cool idea for a comparison. All four good albums, but one is an all-time classic/watershed masterwork. QR easily.

I know I am still a relatively "new" Iron Maiden fan, but I think y'all that don't genuflect to Somewhere in Time are crazy.

Those are my two favorite Iron Maiden albums, both five star releases, so not a lot of albums could take them out. This is an easy win for me. I do love Operation: mindcrime, though, and Rage for order is also special.

Ryche for me.  I've been a QR fan longer than I've been a Maiden fan.  On the balance though, I think IM's catalog is better than QR's.

Ugh, four of my favorite albums of all time!   Had to go with QR, since RFO and Mindcrime are amazing albums.  But that is nearly an impossible choice for me, putting them up against 2 really awesome Maiden albums.

Maiden as a general proposition and it's not even close, but you have QR's best album and two of Maiden's very good but not great records (Rage is okay)....    I might still go Maiden, but it's a dogfight.

This one is exceedingly hard...SiT is probably my second favorite Maiden album and Seventh Son is not too far behind...O:M is my favorite Queensryche album (and one of my all-time favorites, period) and on certain days Rage for Order is my second favorite.

Soooo....I'll go with QR, but it's really, really close.

Rage and Mindcrime. Both those Maiden albums are great, but are a notch below the two QR records.

This is really easy.  SSOASS is my least favorite of the "classic" era Maiden albums, and SIT ranks no better than 5th on that same list.  Put them up against the granddaddy of all prog metal concept albums and a generally underrated classic, and it's really no contest.

Pretty obvious. Great singer, twin guitar attack, non-stupid lyrics.

I picked Maiden for this poll but those are 4 good to great albums.
