As it happens I agree that most bands who play in a similar style are not especially interesting. Teramaze are one of the very few exceptions for me as, on a couple of their albums especially, the songwriting is dynamic and exciting and there are a lot of strong hooks. Hopefully you'll similarly find that the quality means it stands out!

4. Not exactly the kind of sound that's gonna blow my world, but it's at least rock solid enjoyable at the end of the day.

11. A bit more colorful, moody, and grandiose than I usually expect from this genre that's decisively not for me… could see it actually working, as a result?

12. It's a bit of a slow burn to a big climax but ironically, I might've liked the buildup more than the payoff.

13. Yeah, again, I got pretty much what I expected out of this one and that doesn't necessarily make it… bad, just, unexciting. Like yup.

15. Honestly it's completely on me that I haven't listened to this band enough to ban them, because they're pretty consistently one of if not my favorite of their contemporaries.

i don't have my notes in front of me atm but i'm pretty sure ariich is 100% right, yeah 
have yet to get a chance to do second listens tho (gotta be honest staring at a 3 hour playlist half full of "fine" prog metal is very demotivating  ) so comparisons are miles and miles away

trying to figure out what i can do to update this thread in the inevitably long time it's gonna take me to get results out, about halfway thru second listens and listening whenever i get a chance to sit down with these songs but knowing that with all the listening i've done i'd be about ready to start writing results in any other round but i'm not even halfway there in this round is. a feeling 

trying to figure out how to score these is a challenge because this is one of the less exciting rounds but i don't want to let that impede the fact that the tunes are generally pretty quality with only like one or two somewhat-misses for me

Maybe focus on a few songs at a time and post updates in batches? Could start with the three players currently ranked at the bottom, then move onto the next three when you've posted results for them.

Or at least, if you're doing themed rounds, maybe avoid themes that directly ask for or inadvertently encourage these things.

And also, apparently no black metal.  My worst scores were from thinking I could hit niches of it that Crow hadn't explored.  Big mistake.  *sigh*  Even the higher-scoring ones from others were complaint-ridden.

You need to tread very carefully when it come to Black Metal and Crow.
