Was just about to post that one.

Knight was great for a soundbite back in the day and not always in a good way, but he certainly let his mark on the sport of college hoops.

I wanted to show the wife a memorable incident in Mr. Knight's career, so I went to you tube, and started to type in

'bobby kni'

and it instantly did an auto fill 'bobby knight throws chair'   :lol :lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukpekodCQ-U

I so remember this, as it was the Saturday regional 'Big Ten Game Of The Week'.  I grew up rooting against Indiana no matter who they played.

I will say that his players did admire him (if he didn't grab them around the neck).  He helped raise close to half a mil when Landon Turner was paralyzed in an auto accident before his senior year.  And his players graduated.  So I begrudgingly give him respect for that, his coaching, the three NCAA titles, etc.

Then, as now, it didn't matter if you were a Michigan or Michigan State fan, there was one thing all agreed on:  Bobby Knight was a  :censored

I met him briefly in Hartford at the NCAA Tournament Round one; I was working security and as he walked past to get to the court, he turned around and grabbed a couple of sodas from one of the managers (who had a tray of them) and handed them to me and one of my colleagues.  He chatted for a minute or two about the crowd and stuff and then went out and coached his team to like a 20 point blowout.

Well, he certainly seemed like an asshole, but he also seemed like a good coach who did want the best for his players.  It's one of those odd coaches who is probably not universally liked by his attitude, but if you connected with him, you probably loved him.

He certainly was entertaining though, I always liked him.

For the four people around here who had probably heard of April Wine, their singer/guitarist/songwriter Myles Goodwyn died.

I literally never listen to them anymore, and they were always more of a "I like a handful of their songs or so" band for me, but that was during my classic rock radio listening period, so when a few friends mentioned about getting tickets, I was like, sure, why not.  I don't remember much about it, but I know I enjoyed it.

I've definitely heard of April Wine and even have a few of their songs on my iPod.

Okay, that doesn't prove anything, I guess.   I'm probably just one of the four.

I Like to Rock and Roller in particular were major staples on rock radio here back in the 90s.

They also had a super obscure song called Shot Down that was huge on rock radio here in St. Louis, but apparently never played anywhere else.  A friend remembers an interview with them where one of the local DJs told them that and they were stunned.

They broke big in the midwest with "Roller" and the album was called First Glance, so we assumed it was their first album.  Turns out it was their seventh album.  "I Like to Rock" was pretty fun, too.  Played that song in one of my first bands.  But the gem from that album (Harder... Faster) was their cover of "21st Century Schizoid Man".  Pretty ballsy to cover King Crimson, but it's a great version.

I saw them in 93 playing with Jackyl at the local shed. Can't find any mention of it other than AW's website, and it appeared to be a one-off kind of gig. Some other bands were there, too (I despise Jackyl and we left when they came on). I remember it was a very good set, and included one of the best drum solos I've ever seen. The drummer, Jerry Mercer, was a real badass.

Roller was such a solid tune.

In the early 90s I actually won tickets in the radio to their show, had to work so my brother went. Said they kicked ass.

Jay was pumping them pretty hard in the Hard Rock thread earlier today.  As a Canadian, I'm rather familiar with April Wine.  I like the description of being Canada's Blue Oyster Cult.

Coincidentally, my local radio station ended up playing one of their songs. I was all, April Wine, never heard of them but not bad of a song. This was played a couple days before he passed.

I don't agree with the April Wine/BOC thing (I know 99% of the BOC catalogue like the back of my hand, they were 8th on my favorites list, and I just don't see it), but it's cool to see than more than I would have thought here are familiar with April Wine.  :tup :tup
