Alan Arkin, 89

Goddammit.  He was fabulous in the Netflix sitcom with Michael Douglas, The Kominsky Method.

Ditto!
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Legendary singer, civil rights advocate, and of course, San Francisco icon. He's about as integral a part of what this city should be as anything else.

Doing a dive into his duets with Lady Gaga right now, amazing performances.

Rest in peace.

Sinead O'Connor has died at 56.

Was never really a fan, but Nothing Compares 2 U is an incredible song, and she also sang with Peter Gabriel on the tremendous Blood of Eden, so this does make me a little sad.

I really didn't know much of her work outside of a few hits and her contributions to PG's Us, but Sinead O'Connor clearly touched the lives of many based on the response I am seeing in a lot of places today.  I know she struggled with mental health for much of her adult life, so hopefully she is in a better place now. That rock doc was brutal. I hated Henley for what he said about Rush but damn, Frey was the real villain watching the doc.

He referred to Rush in some context and said "yuck!" He just doesn't dig their music, and given what he does that doesn't surprise me at all. Rappers probably don't like opera all that much. The Eagles and Rush are very different things.

He also had some kind things to say about them at the RRHoF induction.

Quote
DH: "Yeah, the Rush fans - I encountered them when I inducted Randy Newman into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Rush was being inducted the same night. They were a drunken, rowdy bunch. (Laughs) They shouted down Oprah Winfrey! It was funny. But Rush, they were very charming. Which one was it who got up and did a whole acceptance speech just using the words “blah blah blah”?

MG: That was Alex Lifeson.

DH: It was brilliant. It was fucking brilliant. Because you knew what he was saying, because of his inflection and his hand movements and stuff like that. It just brought the house down. I’ll never forget that. But I was lucky that night, because I got to go on first before their audience got toasted. So they were fairly quiet while I was on. I left after my bit was done, but I understand it got pretty ugly. Anyway …

Good Morning Mister Breakfast!

Pee Wee's Playhouse was a staple when I was a kid.

I'm likely not alone in realizing how involved Phil Hartman was with that show, movies and the character. Did Reubens appear on SNL? I'd guess he did.

He hosted once, and I think he auditioned once, too.

He used to appear on the new version of "To Tell The Truth" a lot; he'd appear in costume as one of the panel.

This has been a tough week for GenX fans.

My love for Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman began in 1981 with The PeeWee Herman Show - Live at the Roxy Theater

Cable television was sort of a new thing.  We didn't even have HBO at our house until 1983, so I saw this at a friend's house the first time and then watched it countless times.  My sister and I could literally recite every line and often lapsed into bits here and there to make each other laugh.  "I'm not wearing underpants." and about 100 other lines.

I still laugh at all the gags.  This show at the Roxy was not meant for kids.  I loved all the goofiness, innuendo and irreverence.

As for the kid's PeeWee's Playhouse, my kids were brought up on all of those.  All of those famous guest appearances - so many people loved PeeWee.  So in honor of his memory, I post the Roxy special - a live theater production!  I hope some of you youngsters will check it out.  It's campy and silly and a lot of fun.  It helps to be altered - if you are so inclined.  :hat

I did enjoy Pee-Wee's Playhouse for a bit and recall liking the movie as a kid. Can't say I was aware of anything he did after that.

Randy Meisner is the Mick Foley of rock music: Way too nice a guy to be involved in the industry he is in. Posted in the Eagles thread a while back a link to a live performance of Take It To the Limit; gonna watch that right now.

Long story short, I drank with Randy Meisner one night when I was living in Burbank back in 92-ish.  Not just me, but there was a table with about eight or ten people (I was working with a guy that in hindsight was probably not a friend but a "connection", but still) and at the end of the night he picked up the tab even though he knew maybe half the table.  Seemed very friendly, though pretty shy.  It was funny, though, you could tell who the "celebrity" was at the table; his chair had like ten people grouped behind it, every other chair, none. Haha.
