Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Yeah, I know this thread is old, but I saw the discussion pop up somewhere else, so I'll just add this:  The fun thing at the time most of these were added is that we had a pretty big, longstanding user base AND we had a longstanding set of Internet-based "inside jokes" that most of the regulars knew.  When I started the forum emoticon collection, I think it was fun and funny for everyone seeing the coupling of emoticons with usage codes that were based on users and/or said inside jokes.  Unfortunately, that same set of factors really makes it a pain many years after the fact now that many of those users and jokes are long forgotten, which makes the codes for many of them really counterintuitive.  Sorry about that.  There are tons that even I have either forgotten about altogether or at least forgotten the codes, so I have to go into the admin panel every now and then to take a look.

If there are particular ones people like to use a lot and feel like there should be a more intuitive code, post and let me know.  It would take WAY more time and effort than it would be worth to redo them all from scratch, so I'm not doing that.  But I don't mind doing some if people want.

The screen with the Reply box (as opposed to Quick Reply) has a bunch of emoticons, presumably all the "non-hidden" ones.  Is it a lot of work to just add the hidden ones to the standard set?

There's also a "more" button to click on.  Maybe they could go there?

Way too many.  Not only would it create a huge menu, but it would also put a big strain on the bandwidth if every time someone clicked the "reply" button, all of those are there onscreen and that data is transmitted.  I know it doesn't seem like that big a deal, but it would actually be a nightmare for the server.

Hmm, bummer.  I guess I didn't realize how many there are (which makes sense since they're "hidden"). :p

Seems to me that changing the names of them would be more disruptive than them simply having archaic names. Also, the names might someday spark a discussion about past members and in jokes.

It does seem like there should be a way to find them, though.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

Well, maybe I'll start a master list.  Some of the fun for me in doing them was just letting people discover them (or not) over time.  But the novelty is not really present since, again, a lot of the references that might cause people to find them are outdated.  I won't get to them all, but I'll just add some from time to time.  Here's the first batch (if the order seems strange, the forum software lists them in order by file name):

That Duncan thread has been my profile pic source since that fateful day he drew me in there. Probably the peak of my internet existence to be honest. :lol

That thread is hard to find, but is in the archive, and the photo links are still working (I think I downloaded all the files and put them on my Photobucket):  https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=28146.0

Stadler, if you haven't ever seen that thread, you should take a look.  It is honestly one of the funniest things I have ever read, and is my all-time favorite thread on any version of these forums.

I'm sure it's no surprise that I have them all on my hard drive as well, at least the ones with me in them.  :lol
