Paramore - This is Why

Very out of character for me, but I am liking it very much.

This album seems to have sold a number of people who were previously not into them.

Listening to Kansas, Leftoverture. How the fuck have I never heard this before?!?!?! Carry On Wayward Son is one of my favourite songs of all time (I got to know it through Guitar Hero years ago) but I never thought of listening to this album until now. And it was inspired by someone here saying part of one song on the album was lifted for Octavarium the other night. Anyway, WOW! This album is BRILLIANT! :lol

I saw these guys play live several months ago and it was really cool. They were crammed on a tiny stage amidst all of their gear and were still going all out, headbanging, swinging guitars around - it was awesome.

They were opening for George Clanton and Frost Children right? I was at the Boston show for that tour - they were honestly the main reason I went. :lol But George Clanton has some nice stuff too and Frost Children ended up being a great surprise, they put on one hell of a show.

I was probably one of the youngest people in the audience and I'm 28. :lol

Yes! And same, I went for dds, but Frost Children actually ended up being my favorite performance of the night! They had so much energy and I realized that I'm getting old...my neck and back were so sore the next day from dancing and headbanging.

Ah, was just curious. The vast majority of the group's albums between 2020 and present day aren't available on streaming or their public Bandcamp because they're exclusive to their mixtape club, where on a usual schedule they release one album every month. It's a monthly fee to join the club, but if you're in it you get to download any album of theirs for free, which given the size of their discography, ends up being kind of a good deal. :lol You also get access to their discord, which is a pretty chill place.

It's worth joining if you like the group, I joined just to get one of their albums (Transcendence Bot) and figured I'd cancel my subscription if I didn't need it for anything else, but I kept finding stuff I liked, so I'm still a member!

Would that be better than being humped by one?    Great band though.

Sonata Arctica were one of my favorite bands in the early-mid 00s, but they lost me on Unia, and the limited amount I've heard since then never restored my confidence.  This actually feels like the recurring "back to our roots" album that everybody says they're doing when it really isn't.  Quite impressed on the first play.

Yep, I'm basically coming from the exact same place with this album. It's prompted me to go back and check out some of the other albums as well though.

Nine Inch Nails - Add Violence

Spinning vinyl, I got gifted this one years ago. Finally in the mood for some NIN. I really don’t like all his albums but I’m really enjoying this EP.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

Anyone familiar with Gísli Gunnarsson? I'd never heard of him, but he's just released a single featuring Alcest, which I really enjoyed...

https://open.spotify.com/track/7fVxHLURIbfZReiWfBKZ4V?si=Z9B8diAPTyq7-ISx16vvsA&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A116t0bcX8Drqx38DNXzkQZ

I'm just checking out his album from last year, Mementos, and it's pretty damn good...

His Bandcamp page describes him as: Musician and multi-instrumentalist from Iceland. Mixing modern classical and orchestral sounds with ambient electronic production.

It's a really nice atmospheric, post-rock album with lots of guest performances. Check it out, especially if you dig the song with Alcest.

Really like this band, and these are all great albums (though I’m less fond of The Snow Goose than the others).

Wow.  Really beautiful build-up, though the ending kind of threw me for a loop.  I guess I should have been on guard for it with the Alcest guest appearance, but it definitely gets more post-metal/blackgaze at the end rather than just post-rock.  Great track anyway.

Probably the greatest run of pop albums ever made - just banger after banger, this guy was absolutely unstoppable in the 80s.
