Luke, At The Plates should be your kind of album!
Absolutely!

Well, you know I love a food based parody band. I'll report back later.

This pretty good so far! Fuck me, I'm on Terminal Filet Disease :rollin

Amon Amarth - The Great Heathen Army

Bruce Dickinson - Scream for Me Brazil (I really wish this included the full show....and had better cover art.)

I checked that out this weekend as well, but...man those vocals are tough to get through.

I gave harsh vocals a shot back in in the late 2000's and Darkest Hour was one of the bands that I tried. Musically I liked it, but I couldn't get through more than 2-3 songs at a time. :lol

I don't disagree...some of the bands I listen to have vocals that are technically more "extreme" than these, and yet often I have an easier time with them...nothing about this specific vocalist (in fact, he seems pretty effective at what he does), it's just this kind of -core, hyper-aggressive, full-throated style that I found a bit exhausting after a while.

Yeah, I'm much pickier about those types of vocalists.  Even the most abrasive of death/black vocalists, while not always to my liking, can often be more easily tuned out.  Some of the -core ones just get on my nerves more easily, though there are some I like.  Darkest Hour's don't bother me, and musically they're one of the closest to the Gothenberg bands (even having Nordstrom produce one of their albums), so I'm more fond of them.

OK, I've got these lined up for tomorrow. I've heard you mention this Counting Hours album a few times, so I'll bite. Talking of biting, how could I pass up on a band called At the Plates?! I think the band name tells me everything I need to know about them, without hearing a note :lol

OK, so At the Plates wasn't quite as ridiculous as I'd hoped (they're no Pizza Death), but solidly decent with some cracking song titles.

Half way though Counting Hours now and this is pretty good nick/lizzo-core. If only Katatonia sounded half as good as this :neverusethis:

So, I'm actually listening to the Counting Hours album now, just about done. The Katatonia influence really comes out in the second half where the album seems to slow down a bit. I enjoyed the first half much more.

Spinning this tonight:
Defenent-Blind Guides Of The Blind

Clean vocal high energy classic metal. Has a NWOTHM feel to it. Young band from Finland. They look like kids, but I'm really enjoying this. Not sure if the hooks are strong enough but this album rocks.

Yeah, even when the Katatonia influence is more obvious, it's earlier-day rather than latter-day...not so much because of the harsh vocals - those weren't part of Katatonia's approach for very long anyway - rather from the interplay of guitars and those "cascading" riffs (e.g. A Mercy Fall).

Actually, I think the pacing of the album is pretty good. Yes, there are a couple of longer, more "languid" pieces in the second half but, again, a song like A Mercy Fall breaks it up nicely.
