Luke, do you know these London boys?  I've heard about them for years and never got around to checking them out.  The vocals aren't exactly my thing, but damn the music is such a blast I don't mind terribly much.  Seems like a possible intersection of some of our interests, an exact middle ground between a variant of my root/influence section of the day and a few other things and some of the stuff on your EP in my final round, makes me wanna listen to it again.

Everyone in the UK knows The Pogues, as Fairy Tale of New York is always played to death at Christmas. I assume this isn't a thing in the States? I can't say I've ever listened to a whole album of theirs though. I'll give this a go, just for you  :tup

^ Top 50 act for me. Try "Rum,Sodomy, and the Leash" as well.

Already on it!

It could be a thing in some big cities likely more amenable to the sound such as Boston, but nowhere I've heard personally.  There's a decent amount of variety on the album, and most are much more lively than that one.

Hah! I wish. I have it on while I work. If I'm at my work station for most of the day, I can get some good amounts of music in, but it's really all background music while I work.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Two of my favorites from 2024 so far...Chelsea Wolfe delivered, and then some. And that Transit Method album is so incredibly tasty (I know, I already pimped it twice...it's hitting the spot, what can I say)

And the Avantasia album...hadn't revisited it in a while, and I really enjoyed it. Lots of fun.

Finally, the Stormruler...a bit of a random revisit too, just came across it again. Waaaay too long (and, what, ten or so interludes?), but it's well-done melodic black metal with more than a bit of Dissection influence. Also, it sounds great (not quite used to such nice, audible bass in this genre)

Withering Scorn is really just another Eidolon album, with better vocals (compared to these two albums anyway).  Nothing spectacular but I just love Glen's heavy thick guitar tone.

Their last album (Parallel Otherworld) actually has Nils from Pagans Mind which was really good Eidolon with a class vocalist.

Yeah, came out in 2005. It's the 3rd of the 4 albums that came out in the Neilson/Simpson (drummer and guitarist who replaced original members Kelly Smith and Michael Gilbert after the High album) era.

This was one of my favorites of last year, and it looks like the special edition has a bunch of bonus tracks, so I'll have to check those out.

The Cold felt more......I dunno, organic?  Heavy? Original?  It kinda had a 90's feel in some songs but heavier which I liked.  I'll have to spin DOD in the car but yeah, based on a listen to each, The Cold wins.

Yep, really liked that one, will have to give these a listen.

Like I said, I have never heard Dreams of Death...I haven't listened to The Cold in a long time but I, too, remember it being quite good. It's probably time for some F&J revisits.

Some listens from today:

That Ritual Dictates album (from 2022) is very intriguing. Goth-y, but in a slightly different way.

And, man, I love FII. I loved it back then (yes, it was different and a step down from Awake, but it still felt so full of cool and unexpected ideas) and I love it now.
