I thought it was fine, but it just needed a bit more pace.

It seems that a number of people here have issues with the tempo of songs.  That's not a thought that comes into my mind that often, but I certainly have my own share of sticking points, with vocal timbre, guitar tone, production, and key, which can be vexing to me and totally opaque to others, so I get it.

Yeah, we all do, and sometimes it's not necessarily across the board either.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

They're one of those bands that seems to get better and better each album, although it's going to be a challenge to improve significantly from where they're at now though.

Agreed. I have high expectations after the last two albums, but they will be hard to top.

Man, this is dreary.  The vocals don't help either, they are so fucking boring.

The vocals are arguably the best part.  :lol

I'll happily argue that point.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Well, I guess we have us and Evermind.   :D

:)

Litho, speaking of Italian gothic/doom-adjacent bands, what do you think of Shores of Null and Klimt 1918? The former are heavier, and the singer is very good with both harsh and clean vocals. Their second to last album, Beyond the Shores, is one (almost) 40-minute song and is very good. Their debut is too. Klimt 1918 were pretty quick to move to a more new-wavish (then even shoegazey) sound after their beginnings. Their second full length, Dopoguerra, is excellent.

Got most of Ihsahn's solo work in rotation in anticipation of his new album, but this one is easily my favourite.

I've heard a few songs from each, but no full albums yet to my recollection, but I'll bump them up on my list.

Two more things about The Foreshadowing.  Nick, did you hear the EP they released last year?  And for TAC, wolfking, or anyone else who hasn't heard them and/or was underwhelmed with that particular album, I notice on RYM it's the lowest rated album of theirs by a decent margin, so it's possible you'd like something else of theirs more.  Their debut Days of Nothing has the best rating ratio.

You post something of his fairly regularly.  It's a much needed reminder that while I've heard and enjoyed some of his work, there's much I still need to get to.  He also might make a "blink and you'll miss it" guest appearance somewhere else fairly soon.

I've just been doing a re-listen through his stuff with the Flecktones.

He has loads and loads of music both solo and with other artists as well.  Not to mention his foundational work with New Grass Revival.

He has a new album coming out soon - his renditions of Rhapsody in Blue.

Hah, I just looked at my RYM for his work.  Turns out I actually own Rocket Science on CD, but I either hadn't gotten to it yet, or possibly only heard it once or twice and forgot to rate it (or didn't feel comfortable doing so yet).

I didn't hear the EP, actually - they are "leftover" songs, correct? I'll have to check it out. Days of Nothing is probably my favorite album of theirs. And yes, it's a little more "dynamic", so it might be (marginally) more of a hit  ;)

Today...

Man, Depeche Mode's Ultra...so many good memories. Such a good album. Yes, the first half has the "hits" and the second is much more intimate/less immediately appealing, but I love this version of the band. Incidentally, when I think of Paradise Lost and their Depeche Mode-influenced records (One Second/Host in particular), Songs of Faith and Devotion and Ultra really are where they got inspired, even more so than the 80s stuff. It's No Good, Useless, Freestate...they have a lot of that gloomy atmosphere (and the ending of Home, with the strings...I mean, PL might have built a song or two off that  ;))

Also, I was in the mood to revisit Slaughter of the Soul...still a classic.

And Tim - you kinda opened up a whole thing with Mega Colossus! I've been exploring their previous record and their are a ton of fun. Classic metal, yes, but with enough quirkiness to make it always interesting.

It's some unreleased material (including one previewing the upcoming album), a rerecorded song or two, and a cover, I believe.  Interestingly it has the highest RYM rating of their works so far, which is unusual for B-sides sorts of compilations, though easily the fewest ratings, so that could change.

I swear, half your collection is the same as mine, and the other half is either stuff I want, or fits more with TAC, or maybe wolfking or Puppies.  :)

Ultra is kind of inconsistent for me, as much of their post-Wilder work is, but "It's No Good" is easily one of their best songs.

AS is more of a fan and forum favorite than mine, but it's still great.

SotS never gets old.

Yeah, Ultra is a bit inconsistent, but I always enjoy it. Agreed on It's No Good. And the part starting around 1:45 (and then returning around 3:50) with the synth and the descending bass...man oh man, it's goosebumps.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of Tesseract but yes, Altered State is very good. I do prefer Tompkins to O'Hara as a vocalist (if anything, because of the versatility), but AS might be my favorite of theirs. Although I have to say, Tompkins' performance on their most recent is so good that it almost "makes" the album.

Yea, saying it's easily my favourite was probably a bit of an exaggeration. His solo work is so consistently good though, and I've got high hopes for the new album, as I love metal when it is also orchestral.

One of the better new releases I've checked out so far today...

Chapel of Disease - Echoes of Light

Buddy, I know you're a fan. I thought this was better than the previous album, but it didn't have my full attention at the time. Definitely moments my ears pricked up though, and I know I'll be coming back to it.

Did I read it right that the new record will be released in two versions, one "metal" and the other fully orchestral?

It's on my list to check out...I actually don't know the band/their previous work at all, but what I've read about this sounded intriguing...
