It's a great album, my only gripe is that godawful Chilean pipe effects pedal di meola has.

i'm checking it out now!

for me, wall of eyes failed to live up to the anticipation. maybe it's a grower, but on first listen, it felt like a collection of ideas that never fully materialized into a cohesive and engaging album. disappointing, to say the least.

I get that, it's a lot to take in at once. "Wall of Eyes" really landed for me though, especially after a couple of listens when the layers started to meld together. Maybe it'll grow on you too, it's got some subtle hooks that sneak up on you.

Blood Incantation - Luminescent Bridge

This EP features 2 tracks, one is heavy and one is some sort of ambient piece.

This ‘death metal’ band is quite special. They’ve released three albums thus far, one of which is a full-on ambient record which is amazingly good even within that genre itself.

These two tracks though, can’t get enough. The atmosphere on both tracks is impeccable. The way ‘Obliquity of the Ecliptic’ kicks off gets my blood pumping like nothing else. In fact as a moderate death metal enjoyer this is really one of the best and most beautiful death metal songs I’ve heard outside of Opeth’s classic albums.

Yea, I love Blood Incantation for their ability to fuse Death metal with eerie, atmospheric, sci-fi soundscapes. I love that shit, and their latest EP is a good mix of Timewave Zero and Hidden History of the Human Race.

(Last one is Dissimulator - Lower Form Resistance, came out on Friday last week. Very tight, technical thrash metal from Canada. A bit more on the extreme side, there's plenty of great riffage to enjoy here. Vocals are death-ier, except for some "robotic" portions not too dissimilar from Cynic)

Finally getting to this.

The vocals are a definitely iffy, but this album fucking rocks.  :metal
Really thrashy and riffy, and a little punkish as well.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Transit Method - Othervoid

First February release I'm lending my ears to and...well, this was a very pleasant surprise. Certainly sounds different than one would expect from the cover art. From Texas, this is heavy rock with a vaguely proggy influence thrown in, plus sprinkles of other flavorings. At times some early 90s rock influence, some punkish energy, and vocals that remind me of a more lively Perry Farrell. Although in a different context, this made me think a bit of the Timechild album last year, in how it mixes a hard rock approach with more expansive songwriting.

Everything is extremely concise - the album is 35 minute long. The closer is almost 9 minutes (and really cool!), but the rest of the songs are generally short and to the point. Great rhythm section too, very punchy and dynamic, with a hefty bass presence (that groove opening Nightmare Machines! The whole song is really good). Another Wasted Life is a good representation of their sound, I think - it starts kinda groovy and slower, and it builds up to a more aggressive finale. Same with Savage Creatures, very smooth at first and significantly heavier later, with a great riff (and the one spot with more aggressive vocals).

I will definitely revisit!

The Cynic reference perked my ears up, but it's mostly just in those vocoder vocals that their influence can be felt.  It's a pretty solid album, though it didn't overwhelm me really.  The title track is probably the one I'm most likely to return to, though there were a few cool bass breaks in other tracks.

Yeah, Tägtgren is one of the best death metal vocalists around. Hypocrisy themselves I usually find pretty good if not exceptional, but he's always top-notch. I like a lot of the weird electric poppy metal he does with his side project, Pain, too.

You should definitely listen to their late 90s and mid-00s albums.

Indeed! Abducted is essential listening, for starters. After their more classic death metal beginnings, The Fourth Dimension (1994) is where they start being a different beast (the opener of that album, Apocalypse, is a fantastic song)…then Abducted (1996) really put them on the map at the time (the single Roswell 47 even had some decent rotation with its video). Great stuff. Then Final Chapter and the s/t after that too, for sure.
