I waited many years for this record but only now am I listening to it: Chinese Democracy by Guns N' Roses

What sparked it today, of all days, after all of this time? :)

And, even more crucially, was it worth the wait?

I have a list of albums I want to listen to and this one came up today. It wasn't bad, there were a few solid tracks on it but it felt largely forgettable.

Good stuff! Gambling with the Devil ranks pretty high for me in the Deris era. Stalingrad was a bit of a drop vs. Blood of the Nations, but still good. And the Testament and Anthrax (especially the latter) are very good late-career albums for both.

I haven't really checked out the Riot V incarnation...is this a good starting point?

I wish Biff did a song with Andi on that album, not just the intro.

I actually think I'd prefer Stalingrad over Bations.  It's close though.

It's hard to differentiate those later Accept albums. They're all awesome.

Listening to this one right now, and it's awesome!

This one feels the most like 80's Accept to me I think.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Just finished this one off..

This is easily my least fave of the 5 Tornillo albums.

1. Blind Rage
2. Blood Of The Nations
3. Too Mean To Die
4. Stalingrad
5. The Rise Of Chaos

..and because I'm in a mood and haven't heard this in decades, I thought I'd throw this on.

Holy shit does this album blow. It sucked when it came out.  I may likely never hear this album again in my life. :lol

I’d probably go:

1. Blood of the Nations
2. Blind Rage
3. Stalingrad
4. Too Mean to Die
5. The Rise of Chaos

…and I’ve never even listened to Eat the Heat, it turns out

It's awful. I remember getting it when it came out. It doesn't even sound like Accept. The production sucked and Accept was a band that had personality in its playing that had nothing to do with Udo, and this album lacks all of it.

There's ONE song, D-Train, that is half decent. That's it. Avoid this album! :lol

What fascinating and shows the strength of this 5 album run is that TROC is my fav and Blind Rage is easily my least fav.  Might need a run through of them all next week.

I've seen Eat the Heat discussed here.  Honestly, my knowledge on older Accept is surprisingly spotty.  I may have listened to this one but I'll check again.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

I used to skip to the last couple - I also liked Break The Ice back in the day but it really sounds nothing like Accept.  The only reason I got the album (much later than release) was that I liked Bangalore Choir at the time and wanted to see how David Reece had done in Accept.

Now that's my kind of day.  I haven't heard Replicant, and dissodeath isn't what I gravitate towards very often, but I might have to check it out.  Any particular song to try first?

Yeah, the Replicant is quite good. Not my go-to either, but this particular record has some interesting groovy stuff to go with the dissonant

As for songs to try…

The opener, Caverns of insipid reflection, does a good job representing their sound. Plus it has a very cool atmospheric section towards the end.

Then I’d say Coerced to be and Chassis of deceit, maybe…great groove/riffage there, amidst the madness.

I liked it a lot, it's been a few years since I've sat through the whole thing. I think I still might prefer Raven but we'll see when I give that a listen in a few days.

Nah :) far from being upper-tier JP, of course, but there’s some reasonably good stuff in it. And the is not from someone that was holding his breath for Halford’s return, at the time.

Out of curiosity, how close to a hypothetical JP bottom of the barrel would you put it?

Hmm, just listened to that one.  There's definitely potential there.  The vocals threw me initially, but it's more promising than a lot of vaguely similar things.  Getting the style right is really a razor's edge.  With a lot of bands a bunch of it sounds like even less tuneful and wanky tech death, and some of it is just this swirling vortex of chaos that you can hardly make any sense of.  There's a sweet spot of Lovecraftian intrigue that I occasionally stumble upon, but it's a small target.  I'll definitely go a bit further on this one though.

The vocals are a bit tough…especially the occasional…I guess I’d call it “howling”? ;) not super-familiar, but I think I read they were going for a Gorguts-like approach to the vocals.
