At the gym tonight...

You were the one that made me finally appreciate Endgame making it fly up my rankings.  Would be a perfect gym album!!  :metal

Endgame is so damn good (equally as good as United Abominations for me) and yes, a perfect gym album. Those two albums are better than anything post Rust in Peace, as far as I'm concerned.

The best King Gizzard album that isn't King Gizzard, that I've ever heard...

But also channelling more Beatles.

Kind of mystified at the low aggregated ratings for this.  It might be my favorite of theirs, even above Fallen.  The simple but heavy riffs and gargantuan production underneath the melancholic melodies are a perfect sweet spot there.

TSHF was always my fav of the later stuff but these days, I dunno.....Endgame may be better.  UA is pretty underrated too, I'll give you that.

TSHF is also better than any 90s Megadave album that isn't called Rust in Peace.

It has higher highs than the others, but I don't think it's as consistent as CTE or Youthanasia

100% agree. REALLY like this album and I remember listening to it a ton when it came out. So many good, catchy songs (The Change, My Heart is Broken, Erase This...). I think it's instrumentally (as relatively "simple" as it is) more interesting than Fallen, although that one might still have the edge due to the enormous amount of hits  ;) Good stuff. I might revisit it tonight

TSHF is almost surely my favorite post, um, Countdown, I think. Or Youthanasia...maybe on the same level as that one. It's a bit of a Dave & friends kinda album, but there's a lot of great tunes on it. UA starts great then peters out. Endgame I like but don't love. I have to say the last two records are quite tasty, though.

Interesting, the standouts for me are completely different.  "Made of Stone", "The End of the Dream", "What You Want", "Never Go Back", and "The Other Side".  I like the lower keys.  Then "Lost In Paradise" and "Swimming Home" are nice ballads.  I should replay the others and see if they pop out more.

Oh, I like all of the ones you list too...I was just going by memory. I particularly love the piano parts in those I mentioned above. Erase This is a bit of a "dark horse" of the album for me...such an urgent song with a real cool riff and drum beat too.

Good stuff! Gambling with the Devil ranks pretty high for me in the Deris era. Stalingrad was a bit of a drop vs. Blood of the Nations, but still good. And the Testament and Anthrax (especially the latter) are very good late-career albums for both.

I haven't really checked out the Riot V incarnation...is this a good starting point?

Yes. This is the first of the two albums that they have done.

They actually have a new album coming out in April.

Todd Michael Hall is the vocalist and he is amazing!

I wish Biff did a song with Andi on that album, not just the intro.

I actually think I'd prefer Stalingrad over Bations.  It's close though.

Really like the newest album, and been listening to some of the other albums.  I really dig the double album format of this one.
