I listened to the first few tracks. It sounds awesome. I really don't know the songs, and the vocals are still rough, but these live vocals are more digestible than the studio albums. Because of the vocals, I don't think I could get through the entire thing in one go, but I enjoyed what I heard.

Alexi really had a 'no fucks given' approach to his vocals.  They were one of the very first (if not the first) band I discovered with growls that I took to, so I'm probably biased there but he was just such an interesting individual.  Even coming up with lyrics in the process of recording backs up that 'no fucks given' approach.

If you liked the first few songs, there's more classic stuff as you go along so well worth listening to the full thing when you have time.

Yeah, after you sent me them in my roulette, I actually bought a bunch of their CDs. But man, the vocals are a real sticking point for me. I definitely plan on listening to the rest of it.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

A few 2023 listens...

The Genus Ordinis Dei came out this December and it's pretty cool...almost like a Gojira with death/symphonic elements. And the Begravement record is really good death metal.

For a softer listen...very happy with the new Peter Gabriel, although I need to spend more time with it. And Subsignal never disappoint.

Plus one inspired by this very thread:

I'll say it again - The Edge of Forever is an incredible song.

Yeah.....I'm really liking this.

Finding myself spinning this again this morning.

Same, this one is head and shoulders above everything they've done.

That's kind of disappointing as I was looking forward on working my way backwards.  I still will though.

Dont go by me on this, its only my opinion, I know Tim is a huge fan of all their stuff. That said, all of their albums are great but the new as a starting point sets the bar high.  :metal

Zero Hour- Metamorphosis.

Power Of Omens- Eyes Of The Oracle.

Dreamscape- Trance-Like State.
( This is album I was listening to on the way to the Hospital at 2am on October 8, 1998 when my wife went into labor with our first son)

All of their albums are pretty consistently similar. This one is awesome, but they all are.

Yeah but I think Matt is on top of his game writing wise on this one. But yeah, style wise I agree with you 100%. I'm curious what Kade thinks of Ghost Ship as that was released 6 years ago.

Merciless Law-Grimoire For The Ultimate Sinner

This is pretty good classic heavy metal. Reminds me of Hibria, especially the vocals.
Now what cracks me up is that supposedly this band is from Chile, and is made up of two guys.
Pancho Ireland and Cederick Forsberg. WTF? :lol

New album from Viper (Andre Matos' first band).  It's not Theatre of Fate but the new CD is really good and this is my favorite from it.

Therion - Leviathan I, II and III

It seems Rate Your Music doesn’t allow posting cover arts anymore. :-\

I don't like I & II that much but Leviathon III is very good. Easily my favorite.

Temple of Angels - Endless Pursuit

Released earlier this year, I came across it a couple of days ago as I was perusing some end-of-year lists online. I've seen it described as dreampop, but more rocking and I don't disagree. Think a mixture of Cocteau Twins, Wish-era The Cure and maybe some All About Eve? It has that real nice, soothing guitar work typical of the genre, and just the right amount of goth-y melancholy.  Very good lead female vocals too.  I can see some DTFers potentially enjoying this (Litho?). Not something I'd want to listen to all the time, but I was in the mood for it now...

I sampled that one the other day but was doing other things so didn't really listen.    Seemed fine but nothing as quality as the new one but I'll run through it again.

The new one is excellent, especially through the first 5 or 6 tracks. It's also probably the heaviest on the whole. I mean, they are all relatively heavy, but I think Mosaic has a bit more oomph.

Nice  :tup I remember seeing reviews of this album, back in the 90s, but I don't think I ever got a chance to listen to it. I do own Very, though (the one after it). Solid prog metal...it also had a cool cover of Ultravox's Dancing With Tears in My Eyes.
