Gee, thanks Kev..

 :lol

Ok, I swear this wasn't, um, inspired by King's post...but I just checked this one out

From Finland, I have very little idea of who these guys are, but this was a ton of fun. I guess I'd say it's "melodic metal" (Litho won't be happy  ;))...very synth-y/bass-driven production (although there's some killer guitar in there!), a bit of Eurovision-metal vibe and, importantly, great melodies all around. Incredibly catchy stuff.

I'm looking forward to some technical prog, some acoustic folk, twangy country, and epic classical next.  :)

Love Dino. On first listen now. This is more Prog Metal than I expected. Keyboard solos and whatnot in this first track.

Also saw he and the same guitarist had a band on Frontier called Animal Drive. Sampled the first track from that and holy crap did the opening slay. Gonna track that down as well.

Nice, that's a cool album. I think Follow the blind man should've been their second album and he announced it 2 years ago but due to changes in the lineup, name and whatnot they postponed it. Didn't listen to Bite! that much but from what I remember it's similar to this album but a bit simpler.

2022 was a really weak year in music for me so I'm still trying to find gems I missed.

What is the band name on the second album?  Cover is cool.

Yeah, I knew he had lawsuits going with Frontiers and I found the story on it. They were ready for their second album but Frontiers just stopped helping them so they broke up and then Frontiers sued them. Dino has spent years bagging on the label as crooks. Now I know the story. Really enjoyed this album.

Man, whoever is posting images from metalinvader, it keeps freaking out my anti-virus. They appear to have blacklisted the site so these pages have not been loading well. Not sure what the deal is, but hopefully it's not doing anything bad.

I did not. I will since you asked and report back. Checking out albums post roulettes for me is actually not very common. No idea why.

I'm not sure this album is gonna change your stance :lol

Oh, also that Send More Paramedics album is half atmospheric zombie movie soundtrack. Ignore that, just listen to the first half of the album.

Don't judge an album by it's cover, even when it looks like a mid 00s xbox game.

Incredibly underappreciated and legitimately one of the best albums Steven Wilson or Mikael Akerfeldt have made. It became an all-time favorite of mine back in 2012 and it still is today.

I really need to relisten to it.  I never hear good things about it elsewhere, which makes me disinterested in coming back to it, but sometimes the consensus is wrong.  Although, the RYM average isn't bad at all, maybe it's just that people's expectations were sky-high and those are almost always impossible to meet.

It just wasn't what a lot of people wanted. An Opeth-meets-Porcupine Tree sounding album might have happened if they had made it around a decade earlier, but by 2012, there was no way that was going to happen. Porcupine Tree was on hiatus and Opeth had changed sounds completely. People should have expected something completely different, and that's what we got. But the identity of both musicians is still very clearly there - if anything this album is so great because both musicians are excellent at crafting very evocative atmospheres in their music, and that's what this album has as its main focus. Every single song is just so damn vivid in the mental imagery it creates, which is especially impressive because each song has a very different mood and atmosphere. Some darker stuff, some prettier stuff, all done amazingly.

If there's one other album it reminds me of, it's Comus's First Utterance (especially the song The Herald), which is a cult classic and also a very good album in my opinion. I would hope Storm Corrosion gets its rightful place as a cult classic eventually, but if the cult is just me and like, ten other people, so be it. :lol

Opeth and PT increasingly sounded more like each other as the 00s went along anyway.

And I like Heritage way more than most people seem to, so maybe I'm already primed for it.  It's kind of weird that I remember absolutely nothing about what it sounds like.  It must have been a really distracted listen when it came out.

Same. It's my clear favorite of the post-Watershed Opeth albums. Pale Communion was the one I really didn't like, and the last two were good but nothing amazing.

When I revisited Pale Communion it clicked with me a lot and I didn't like it at first. Heritage is actually brilliant when I stopped expecting Still Life or Blackwater Park. It took time for me to come around to the new version of Opeth and it makes the early albums that more special.
