Modder - The Great Liberation Through Hearing

Instrumental sludge from Belgium. It's heavy and agressive with enough variation for the entire album. Recommended.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Sounds interesting enough and I trust your tastes somewhat, so I'll give it a go.

This evenings listening...

Starting off with a fairly regular rotation King Diamond album.
Followed by the latest Ihsahn EP. The new single has sparked an Ihsahn kick, which is of course never a bad thing (also see angL).
Kraftwerk, honestly not a band I've spent deal of time with, but listening to this (specifically Spacelab) I think it's clear Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu was a fan.
Checking out Nachtmerrie's recommendation and it's pretty damn good.
Lastly, I just discovered this Star Wars funk album from.1977 exists :lol  it's so perfectly 70s.

Lacey Sturm - Kenotic Metanoia

CD arrived today. Man, can she still scream when she wants to. Album is fantastic so far. Nice and heavy. Just way too long since the last one.

Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history

More from 2023...

The first is Krigsgrav - Fires in the Fall...from Texas, atmospheric/melodic black metal with more than a sprinkle of melancholic death/doom. I have been enjoying this over the last couple months. The one-two punch of An Everflowing Vessel and The Black Oak is really good. Maybe the album is a tad long, but it's powerful stuff.

And Gunship, well, I'm LOVING it. A few days ago, I was wondering if it would stick, and it most certainly is. 80s synth worship that manages to sound fresh, even though nothing here reinvents the wheel.

Just dropped the needle on The Black Oak before I go to bed. Very nice. I made a note to hit it at work in the morning. The sound is great.

2022 was a really weak year in music for me so I'm still trying to find gems I missed.

Some more 2023...

The Graven Sin album came out earlier this month and this was the first listen...they are from Finland, but they enrolled the singer from Arrayan Path. Heavy metal towards the epic end of things, think a slightly less polished and a bit more uptempo/power-oriented Sorcerer. Very good vocals. Could use some trimming on runtime, but it was highly enjoyable.

Also was in the mood for some thrash and went for this one:

I feel this is not talked about all that much, but it's a very tasty slab of Slayer-like aggression. The drumming is great on this one!

Nick, I hit the Graven Sin a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was pretty good.

I put the Krigsgrav on at work today, but it was a bit harsh and hard to really gauge. I owe it some alone time though.

Today, went a little old school at work..

I only made it through half of the AC/DC. The vocals were so awful on it.

Pretty much in line with my impression.

Graven Sin-Veil Of the Gods

Clean vocal classic metal

Not reinventing the wheel, but very easy on the ears.

Tim - speaking of classic metal...have you checked out this one?

Came out a couple of weeks ago, I've actually pimped it on this thread already. A little more power metal-leaning, with (very) Dio-esque vocals.
