That's a bad ass cover!

I guess much like your discovery approach that you explained to me, the cover instantly made me click on it.  Obviously I was not disappointed.

Ohhhhhh, that's a good idea for a thread. Incredible albums you stumbled upon purely because you liked the album art.

Xoth - Exogalactic

Another release from today. Tech-y (but fun!) death metal album. Great guitar work coming at you from all directions. It's a little over the top, but it's just about the right length.

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Nice! What did you think of the whole Silver Bullet?

I'm giving the Sworn album a (re)listen as we speak. It's really good. I had checked it out a few months ago, liked it but sort of forgot about it. Kade's final exam in the roulette of course sparked the re-listen. Other than the songs that were picked, I love Calamity Sea - it's very simple (almost early Katatonia-like) but incredibly effective. And Monumental has such an epic ending!

I was at work, so while I was listening, it really wasn't dedicated, but my impression is that it might not stick, but my impression of Timechild is that it will stick. In fact, I'm sitting listening to the Timechild right now. I dig it.

The Timechild album is real nice, although it almost comes and goes too fast. I mean, I'm ok with short albums, but I wish they had a couple more tunes in there, exploring more of their sound...

There seems like there's been a ton of 30-35 minute albums this year.

A shame mate, hopefully another listen down the track.  Might have to check the Timechild and Edu.

I believe Tim was referring to the Silver Bullet record...Kade, did you check that one out?

Came out today...I had quite enjoyed their previous record, and this new one sounds good on first listen. A little less heavy, maybe (with the exception of One for Sorrow, which is quite doomy), but engaging throughout. In places, dare I say it has some Ghost vibes...?

Finally getting round to this. Fuck, what a riff this thing kicks off with!

Edit: yea, Nick this is fully Ghost! I'm loving it.

Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Had to listen to this while on a plane the other day, I just had to.

Spinetta Don Lucero
Hmnnn kind of a weird album, it's a late 80s Art Rock / Progressive Pop sound, with a strong New Wave influence. The latter isn't quite my thing yet, but the songs sound interesting. Will revisit it.

Oops I forgot about a few from the other day, so...

Gustavo Cerati Ahí Vamos
More of an Alt Rock / Pop Rock album, kinda similar to the latter output of Soda Stereo - seems he had gotten tired of the electronics. Might not be my favorite of his solo records, but still has plenty of great tunes, like Crimen and Adiós.

Gustavo Cerati Fuerza Natural
Revisiting this after so long, and it's better than what I remembered! More of a mystical vibe, with cool and subtle synths, and some... Country influence? I dig it.

Last days:

Dream Theater - A View From the Top of the World
Draconian - A Rose for the Apocalypse

Svalbard - The Weight of the Mask
Rorcal - Silence
Myrkur - Spine

Svalbard and Rorcal keep growing on me. New Myrkur is quite addicting as well. Another artist I have to check out.

Today's TACommendation:

Fires In The Distance-Air Not Meant For Us

Was going through some of the harsh vocal albums that I had Saved but had not had a chance to circle back to. This album is fantastic. Long sweeping instrumental passages that are so soothing.
Check it out!!

Another new discovery, another new heavy prog album to hit me out of nowhere in the last month. This one is a female fronted band with some amazing performances and outstanding production values (mixed by Rob Aubrey who does Big Big Train and just keeps outdoing himself). Really fresh and exciting stuff with a lot of diversity.
