Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Sky Passage - The Gathering

Very solid prog rock/metal debut EP from earlier this year. I think plenty of folks here would dig this one.

Today...(it was one of those days...commute was terrible, took me three hours just to get in...hence the larger amount of music):

One Hour By the Concrete Lake, for me, is absolutely part of PoS top three (alongside The Perfect Element I and Remedt Lane). Fantastic stuff.

Also enjoyed revisiting Dark Tranquillity's Construct. I don't think it's held in particularly high regard...I guess it's not quite as energetic as their usual...to me it's a bit like their "gothic metal" album. They always have melancholic undertones, but in this one the mood is almost consistently somber.

Interesting, I would give that title to Projector, my favorite of theirs.  I guess it's time to revisit this one.  The "other" DT were one of my favorite bands in the 00s, but I kind of overplayed Fiction, as much as I loved it, and burned out on them for awhile.  Combined with a change in life circumstances, and I wasn't in the right mood for WATV and Construct when they came out.  I heard more positive things about Atoma, so I spent a bit more time with that one, but the early 10s material has been the black hole in their discography that remains underexplored.

Edit:  Just finished listening to Construct for the first time in quite awhile.  Definitely better than I remembered.  I don't think the atmosphere is as thick as Projector, with fewer of those shimmering clean guitars and clean vocals from Stanne, but "Uniformity", "The Silence In Between", and "Photon Dreams" stood out in particular and I should probably come back to it more often.

Yep, agree with it all. Always though that Constuct's closer comparison, stylistically, is Projector (which is obviously better, and coming from a younger, "hungrier" band).

My DT "lull" kind of happened around the time Character came out. I had really liked Haven and Damage Done, and Character felt like a bit of a retread of the older stuff, but without the same magic. It was good of course, but it didn't excite me. Then I lost track of them for some time, just checking out the releases, but not much more.

I have to say, despite the fact that they are now quite literally a different band, I'm enjoying their most recent run of albums (including Moment). Nothing that blew my mind, but very good stuff.
