First one is Omnivortex - Diagrams of Consciousness...A couple of days ago I checked out their second album, which I liked. But I revisited the debut today and, for now, I find it superior. It's pretty relentless too, but it's more varied (even in the vocal approach), with influences that range from death, thrash and also a bit of sludge (the "cleaner" vocals are a bit Mastodon-esque).

Also a quick comment on Skunkworks - I always, always enjoy it. Such a good album. Bruce is in fantastic shape and the band is excellent. I recently re-listened to Adrian Smith's Psycho Motel - speaking of Maiden-related forays in slightly more "alternative" territories - and as much as I love Smith's playing, there really is no competition here (imo). Skunkworks has so many more memorable moments and great tunes.

Plus, other than in a couple of songs, the "grunge-y" influence everyone was talking about when this came out is really not that prevalent. Just one of many ingredients. Oh, and Back from the Edge is one of my favorite Bruce solo-songs.

I should relisten to We Are the Void again sometime.  I remember being disappointed when it came out, but I also wasn't in the mood for it at the time, and I don't even remember if I've listened to it since then.

It's one of those DT records I don't revisit very often...there's some good stuff, but overall bottom tier, I'd say.

Serú Girán Serú Girán
I quite liked this one, the opener is absolutely gorgeous, and Seminare is a classic at this point. Looking forward to the next one.

Spinetta Kamikaze
For an album consisting mostly of B-sides and scrapes from other records, it doesn't feel like so. It's mostly driven by an acoustic guitar and his vocals, with some other instruments here and there. And it's quite lovely and sentimental.

More like Salt Thrower (which is actually a song title on the record).

Sui Generis Confesiones de Invierno
Yeah this one was just lovely and wonderfully arranged. Excellent vocal harmonies, easy to follow melodies, quite diverse instrumentation, what's not to like?

Almendra Almendra II
A bit more of a progressive approach than their debut, but still pretty much a Psychedelic Rock album. It's fine.

Svalbard - The Weigth Of The Mask
Svalbard - When I Die, Will I Get Better?

I like the new one a lot. This is not my favorite genre but this band has some catchy songs & interesting guitar playing I really like. Looking forward to seeing them live this Saturday.

Yea, I'm digging the new one but it's not as good as When I Die, for me. I need to try and catch them live as well, I bet their tickets would be pretty cheap

Probably. They're playing on a festival with bands like Cult of Luna, Enslaved, Ahab, Fvnerals. It's gonna be a great day, the day after probably not.

Yea that's a great line up. Ahab's latest is pretty dope. Are you an Enslaved fan, I can't remember? They would be my highlight for sure. I've only seen them once, and that was in support of Opeth so a short set.

It annoys me endlessly that this band isn't sludge metal. :lol

Ok these are too many for me to be arsed to individually comment on, so I'll just say that Artaud is 50 years old now and it's still a banger. Also the Serú Girán records are very good so far, even when they go a bit pop.

I haven't heard the older ones enough to fairly compare yet, but on first listen to the new one it seems to be on a similar level.  Definitely going to be one of my higher contenders on my year-end list.
