Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

sufjan stevens - javelin

probably not the only time i spin this one today :(
I'm about to give it a listen, really liked the singles, time to cry I guess

i wept hard at Shit Talk. this was sufjan's post this morning about the record

Oh no, that sucks, and explains a lot of the lyrics, damn. He's gone through a lot in the last few years, he doesn't deserve all this pain. The album is so beautiful and heartwrenching, I wished I could hug him.

Got my Kickstarter swag today. Listening to this and the alternate versions disc as well. Prepping to see them at the official release show on 10/20.

beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history

I've been listening to this obscure band called The Pulse Theory a lot. Their debut came out in August and it's been in non-stop rotation. It's a great 90s styled progressive metal album with soulful vocals and lots of melodic leads that just get me.

I wonder how long it will take for people to freshly reevaluate this album.  It seems like when it came out there were some rave reviews from a few establishments, but overall it was considered a massive disappointment.  It doesn't touch the heights they've reached, but I personally like it more than the early material and it's a toss-up between it and Aenima, which tends to be a blasphemous position.

I’m in that reevaluation stage now. I’m loving a lot more now than when it came out. Same thing with 10,000 Days. I remember everyone on the old Portnoy forum ripping that to shreds when it came out. Now it’s a classic, to me at least. But it took a couple of years for me to feel that way about it.

I think because of the long wait, people built it up in their mind that the next Tool album would be the best Tool album. And then were disappointed when we got...just another Tool album.

First time listening to this band seriously. Great album.

I tried to get into this album a couple of times and it never really did anything for me, I didn't really get the hype. That was years ago now, I should give it a relisten.

Yeah this album is just masterful, a very interesting blend of Art Rock with some Jazz, hints of Tango and Prog, and a very mellow, atmospheric approach. Lots of emotion as well - Doscientos Años just gives me chills, so fucking beautiful, in particular the end.

A couple Friday releases...

Have to thank HOF for the Advent Horizon rec...first listen was really good. It's saved and I'll revisit soon. The Prong record sounded solid. Nothing new (obviously), but first impressions are of a more effective and meaner beast than the last few (and it has a Working Man cover to boot!)

Then a couple of death metal records

Blood Oath are from Chile and they play that technical (in an old-school, end of 80s/early 90s way) death metal I'm a sucker for. Pleasantly thrashy at times too. The Ominvortex album (I think this came out on Friday too, actually) is a little more "difficult"...I very much enjoyed their 2020 debut (Diagrams of Consciousness) and this seems to be as good. Lots of cool riffage and moods. Not something I'd listen to all the time, but I'm going to revisit for sure.
