I know many really disliked the first album but I loved it. Thought it was a perfect vehicle for Ripper. Just got the new one and, again, it's nothing groundbreaking but it sounds fantastic and Ripper sounds amazing. They got a proper label and Jacob Hansen did the mixing/mastering so it sounds excellent.

On track 7 and just was thinking this is better than the first. Solid, solid record.

A couple of this week's releases:

A couple of listens for SW's new record, and I'm really enjoying it. I agree with some of the comments I've read here that he certainly hasn't regened the sound he explored on TFB, but this one feels like a "grander" statement. And this thing sounds excellent (no surprise there)

The Maggot Heart, from what I understand, has members from Grave Pleasures (the guitar player there also sings here - female vocals). The sound is a bit post-punky/gothy (e.g. This Shadow), but with some interesting twists (e.g. the brass section in LBD). Intriguing enough that I'll probably revisit. (Litho - there is a chance you might find them intriguing too  ;))

And then this:

On Saturday, I spent some time in a used CD store (yes, I still do that occasionally  :)), and I found the original CD pressing for 3 bucks. So I snatched it. I always only had the 1995 remaster, which was fine, but somehow didn't sound as good to my ears as the tape a friend had recorded me back in the late 80s (still better than the 2002 remaster, I guess). Anyhoo...of course this is the US version (what I had on that tape was the European version, starting with Rock' n' Roll Rebel), but it was so nice to put the CD on...on most days, this my my third favorite Ozzy, after the first two. Love it.

My gut tells me the same, however, I have listened to Bark At The Moon far more as an adult than I have the first two albums. It is my go-to album when I want to hear some Ozzy.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

This was one of the very first prog albums I listened to shortly after becoming a DT fan. Wasn't that big on this one, so I sort of forgot about it. But in recent times, I've come to reappreciate a lot of 70s music from my country, now as a more mature listener. And wow, this album is so lovely. While many of the British albums of the time were quite hectic and grandiose, this one is quite atmospheric and spacey, despite the super simple production. Very mellow and easy to follow along yet extremely intricate from a harmonic POV. It's more of an Art Rock record with hints of Jazz and Tango.

Hmm, it is intriguing.  It was a bit messy for me on the first go though, I guess it's the noise rock slant of it.  There's definitely potential there though, and aggregation sites seem to think the earlier albums are better, so I might give one of those a shot later.  Curiously, I've been wanting to listen to the new Grave Pleasures too, and just put that on, this is hitting the spot much more instantaneously.

Younger Brother - Vaccine

This album is shaping to be one of those records that has one really great song and the rest is pretty terrible. I feel bamboozled

I tend to agree, but I need to listen again. Yep, I’ve read the previous ones are pretty good. As for Grave Pleasures, I enjoyed their latest, but thought the previous one (their second) is slightly better. Incidentally- if you don’t know them already, I highly recommend Beastmilk (the previous “incarnation” of Grave Pleaures)

Totally agree. Another album that goes perfect with a red wine, barrel aged stout, whiskey or cognac.

Which makes me wonder if you have listened to any of those Bell Witch albums ;)

Today:

Tideless - Eye of Water
A very atmospheric blend of death and doom with some post elements. Five songs with a total of 75 minutes. The usual suspects will probably like this.

Baroness - Stone
I'm not sold on this one yet. Besides the better production it's more straightforward compared to the last one.  Probably more consistent as well but so far I think Gold & Grey has the better songs.

TesseracT - War of Being
This will be very high in my yearlist. A perfect blend of everything they have done in the past. Fantastic production, incredible rhytmic section and the best vocal performance I've heard in a while.
