Last couple days' commutes...






(I had kinda forgotten how tasty that Textures album is...not a genre I go for super-often but, I mean, they were doing it in 2006, so they were relatively early movers. And there's some genuintely good riffage besides the more djenty stuff. Also, revisiting Blind Guardian's Beyond the Red Mirror confirmed it is probably my least favorite of their records...by no means "bad", of course...just largely devoid of the memorable moments I love in BG. Plus I just don't like the way it sounds)

i'm trying to form my opinion presently! it took SOUR a while to grow on me and GUTS feels like a grower too. i kinda take issue with how obvious the influences on her are. i know she's like 16 and a prodigy and should be considered in that context but some of the songs (on both records) really come off like taylor or st vincent or caroline polachek songs and it's hard to overlook that when it happens as often as it does.

at the very least i'll say both records are very enjoyable throughout. just trying to put my critic hat on a bit tho lol

Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

While I don't think they'll ever return to their heavier and funkier roots I really wish they would at least bring more of the songs back into rotation.
