Grindcore? Looks like it could be Grindcore.

Obituary - Slowly We Rot
Obituary - Cause of Death
Machine Head - Of Kingdom and Crown
Nile - Ithyphallic
Entombed - Left Hand Path

That is a damn good set of albums right there!

In one fell swoop you broke my heart and redeemed yourself. Ice, Planets is anything but mid, wash your mouth out, but I can agree that Omnium Gatherum is the better album. I was only a casual fan until I heard OG. That was the album (and The Dripping Tap was the song) that turned me into a rabid fan. It’s good that you like it because it covers many of their signature sounds, so it may be easier to work out which albums you’ll love, moving forwards.
I think I'm just not really into their songs that tend to feel like long jams, and the Psychedelic Pop songs are just ok to me. So that leaves the crazy Rock tunes, and some of the metal-ish tracks that veer towards Stoner rather than Thrash. And the random Hip Hop stuff, dunno if they've done more of that.

Haven't really had the time or been in the right mindset for my usual seasonal playlists, so it's a good time to put this classic on before I start thinking about fall really soon.

So, so good. The bonus tracks on the 5-yr anniversary edition are very tasty too.

What are your favorite songs on it?

BTW - I just realized the new Timecop1983 album came out at the beginning of September. Night Drive is another favorite of mine in the genre

Sorry for double post...Over the last couple days' commutes:

The ones with no visible title/artist (assuming you see two per row): second row, right is Hammers of Misfortune - 17th Street (very cool album, like most of theirs), then the row below is Baroness - Purple (production issues aside, I love it...excited about the new one tomorrow) and Horrendous - Anareta (brilliant death metal)

The new Southern Empire is worming its way into my brain. Really good.

I've heard four Timecop albums, and they're fine, but haven't really stood out yet.  I definitely want to check the new one though, maybe I'll like it more and it'll unlock the earlier ones.

My favorite tracks are the title track, "Memories", "Vampires", and "Jason".  "Lonely City" would be up there, but it's just too heavy-handed on the pitch-shifted vocals (the title track is just barely tolerable in that regard as well).  I love that they have real saxophone, some of their peers try and program saxophone lines like they would synthesizer lines, and that rarely works.

Great selection Nick. Particularly like the Baroness, Edge of Sanity, Frost*, Horrendous and Southern Empire. The new Horrendous is particularly awesome and I’ve been listening back through their whole catalogue the last couple of weeks. I’ve been meaning to ever since Buddy sent them in my roulette. Shout out to King for sending Southern Empire in my roulette as well, as I’m digging the new one.

All great picks. Vampires and Jason are fantastic. I love The Comeback Kid too - another one that captures that 80s mood so well. In an alternate universe where those songs actually came out in the 1980s, they probably would've been hits ;)

Baroness - Stone

Left a really good first impression on me. I was pretty disappointed with Gold & Grey, so it feels like a bit of a return to form for me.

Really liked it after one listen. Definitely gonna spin it a few more times today.

I thought Gold and Grey Orange was fine, but the production is just too noisey. Glad they finally toned that down significantly with Stone.

Three new releases from today:

As discussed in their thread, the new Baroness sounds pretty good on the first couple of listens. Some new things/approaches in it and overall sounding quite inspired.

Then a couple of death metal monsters...I am not very familiar with Tomb Mold's previous output, although I did hear lots of praise for their 2019 album, Planetary Clairvoyance. This latest one is rather impressive. Kind of proggy, but very heavy throughout. Will of Whispers has some really cool clean guitars too and it's probably the song that stood out the most. The guitar player's side project is the doom/death band Dream Unending, and some of those moods/atmospherics show up here as well.

Finally, Fabricant's Drudge to the Thicket was quite the surprise. Same guys as the band Mefitis (which you should check out, if you don't know them), but the Voivod influence (among many other things) on that band's death metal gets more or less replaced by a tech-death approach. There's still plenty of weirdness and the playing is phenomenal. Lots to digest so, while it all seems interesting, I have to figure out how I feel about it  ;)

@Nick, I’ve added that Fabricant album to my rotation :tup

Currently on the new Alkaloid. It’s got a lot of stiff competition from yesterdays other releases, but it’s pretty solid so far.
