The other thing I'll say is that it had kind of a modern feel to it. Normally that comment would make me skeptical, but it's not in a nu metal kind of way. It just felt kind of fresh.

Both solid new releases from these bands with some great highlights, though I'm not super wowed by either of them.

I also watched the Metalocalypse movie the other day, and I'm just happy that series finally got a conclusion after all these years.

Timechild - Blossom & Plague

Pretty cool album from this Danish band. It's kinda classic-sounding, but not necessarily easy to describe. The base is hard rock that's not afraid of sounding "current", but also very happy to be traditional. Some great vocals (and harmonies! Check out the ending of the The Dying Tide, Pt.III for proof) and very nice, dynamic drumming too. The closer in particular, Only Our Shadows Remain, is fantastic. Almost like Alter Bridge if they sounded more, um, European (?) and were more influenced by 70s hard rock. There's a section towards the end that's like heavier Rainbow.

It comes and goes a little fast (it's 34 minutes long), but it's tasty.
