VAK - The Islands

They describe themselves as progressive sludge. I'd probably add "noisy", but it's a good description.  Difficult to define anyway, and maybe a bit different than what I normally go for, but it's quite intriguing.

Luke - have you heard them? I have a sense you might enjoy this (or I could be completely wrong  ;))

Got round to spinning this earlier and it was pretty good. I heard some Crack the Skye era Mastodon on Speed of Images  :metal

Yep, I can totally hear Crack the Skye vibes in that song. Maybe a little less riffy...Even in the proggiest songs on that record, Mastodon would bust out some amazing riff (e.g. The Czar and The Last Baron)

But I do enjoy the mood they bring to the table...the use of synths, in particular, is kinda cool

I needed a musical palate cleanser, which Band Maid is always perfect for.

Not as evocative as Woe but still pretty good.

I take this back kinda, after listening to it more I actually like this album more than Woe. Woe does have a more unique and emotional sound to it, as well as the one-two punch of the last two songs which nothing on here quite measures up to, but this one's more consistent and for a 70 minute album it just flies by. The sound is more typical prog metal riffs and keyboards, but I feel like it's not often these days where that sound's actually done well, so I'll gladly take it when it is!

Here's hoping it's not another six years before their next album.

Sometimes all can be put right with a spin of an all time top 5 record.

I've always meant to check out Bell Witch, but never gotten around to it.  What's a good song to sample?

Wouldn't you just be listening to an entire album at that point? :lol

Well, I just looked at their track times, and they literally have two individual songs which are both too long even for my EP round.    :lol   They do have a lot of "short" 10 minute-ish songs though.

The last albums both are essentially one 83 minute (and 15 seconds) long song.
The honest answer is their isn't really a good sample song to check them out and it certainly doesn't work during work or transportation.
One of the parts of the Stygian Bough album might work a little because it's a little more accessible.

The best advice is something like: be alone, take your time, pour yourself a good glass of something (I suggest red wine or a barrel aged stout), turn out the lights and try to get into it.

The only Pink Floyd album I really love is Wish You Were Here, and even then it’s only for Shine On.

Believe it or not I wasn't a fan until I heard The Division Bell. How lame am i ?

This is the best Pink Floyd album by a significant margin.

Sounds to me like we need to have a Pink Floyd album countdown list.

George Clanton - Ooh Rap I Ya

Yeah this is quite the slow burner tbh. The first half is just amazing, the second half loses me a bit, but it's still a solid record. One of my favorites of the year.
