listening to steven wilson's "the raven that refused to sing" for the first time. this is a bit of an adventure for me. the overall atmosphere is quite something. it's a departure from what i usually listen to, but i'm genuinely enjoying the experience. can't help but feel a bit spooked by the album cover – it kind of reminds me of the moon from majora's mask. that game gave me the creeps as a kid!

Say what you want about this album, but it has some classic songs that only Slayer could pull off (looking at you Dittohead).

can't help but be reminded of radiohead's kid a – that kind of haunting and atmospheric tone. both tracks seem to share a certain depth that's hard to describe. i've got to admit, while i respect the song, it's a bit too slow for my usual taste. it's like the pacing is deliberate, which i understand, but it doesn't quite match my energy level. i still appreciate it though. cheers!

First half absolutely slaps, amazing Sythpop song after another. Second half is more experimental and laid back, will take some time to digest it.

The best non-PT SW release IMO. Everyone is firing on all cylinders on this album.

Yea it’s some great death doom. I just realised it’s already been 2 years since it came out. I know Nick and I pimped it a bit when it came out.

Sunday morning. Making pancakes. Dancing round the kitchen. This album.

Perfection.

Yeah, can’t deny I was a bit disappointed when this came out, after the close-to-perfect Seasons, but in retrospect there’s plenty of good Slayer stuff in here. They sure sounded angry ;)

I’ve checked out all their albums at least once, but none have hit like The Tritonus Bell.

Drive Home has one of my all time favorite guitar solos.  Great album. Did the shirt for the album cover glow in the dark?

Any chance you’ll have forgotten that you liked it by the time your next roulette starts?

It is cool though. Gonna spin it again this week.

Just not a fan of this style of music in general? Songs in the Key holds a lot of memories for me. Stevie Wonder was one of my Dad’s favourite artists and he will always make me think of him. I’ll admit I think the album is pretty front loaded, and with it being a double I mean the whole first disc. I think with some trimming it could be one of my favourite all time records, but it is a little overlong. Still a beautiful, soulful singalong.

Yeah, that style ain't quite for me, I've even tried other Soul / Funk albums, old and new, and haven't been able to dig into them. Glad it brings you back memories of your father tho, sometimes a piece of art is more relevant to us for such reasons than what it actually express.

Dunno if I've got any albums like that, I began listening to music seriously in my late teens with DT (hence why I'm still here lol). There are a handful of records that I loosely associate with a time period in my life, but that's about it.

Sounds like torture!

I feel that given enough listens I could come to appreciate this more. Problem is, at 2 hours I have no real inclination to revisit it.

It's actually pretty good so far! I'm digging it, and works wonderfully as background music.

The Swans album really bored me tbh, it's too uneventful and couldn't finish it tbh. I prefer them at their more intense and insane, like on The Seer.

The only Swans album I've tried is To Be Kind. That album was an exercise in patience and I don't get the appeal at all, and this is coming from someone who thinks Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven! is a top 3 album of all time.

I know everybody hypes that record, but I've never been able to get into it myself. The Seer is just excellent, and begins with one of their very best songs, Lunacy, give that track a chance. I also like Soundtracks for the Blind, and while it's a very diverse album, it can be quite hard to digest for newcomers.
