Couple of random comments...Purgatory Afterglow is such an awesome album. All of Dan Swano's genius definitely there already. It's a different kind of record, for sure, but I like it every bit as much as Crimson. The opener, Twilight, is SO good (and with a nod to Marillion's Bitter Suite right in the middle!)

And speaking of random - I mentioned it recently (I think it was Sacul's album thread?), but it's so bizarre that Rage's song A Pilgrim Path was sampled in Unkle's Psyence Fiction (trip-hop project with DJ Shadow and James Lavelle). I actually heard the latter first  :) The intro to an 80s song from a German metal band - and a relatively "obscure" album on top of it! - for a 90s electronica/trip-hop album. Who would've thunk it?

In ways I like it more than Crimson, it's the most melodeath-y of the EoS albums.

Blood, Sweat & Tears - No Sweat

So..just Blood & Tears?

Instead of A Dramatic Turn Of Events, Dream Theater could've called the album No Portnoy.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

I hadn't listened to the Shaman's debut in a looong time. I've always liked it, but I have to say it aged REALLY well. I mean, I just revisited the Matos-era Angra records, and I think I might like this one better than Fireworks. The one obvious step down is, well, no Loureiro/Bittencourt on guitars, but other than that this is some delicious (proggy) power metal, with lots of great melodies and cool ideas. Stylistically kinda in between Angels Cry and Holy Land. The only song that's a little out of place is the closer, Pride...it's more standard power metal with Tobias Sammet guesting on vocals, and it ends the record on a slightly meh note.

Also - a bit surprised the Ashes Divide album wasn't more successful. It's another one I always greatly enjoyed. As one would expect, there's a lot of A Perfect Circle in there. Billy Howerdel on vocals is certainly no Maynard Keenan, but the music here is a bit darker, almost 80s gothic/wave-ish at times, which really hits the spot for me. And Josh Freese on drums is great, as usual.

Ha! Transcendence is in my queue for next week commutes...and I have F&J's High lined up...although Cuatro is quite tasty too.

I sampled the one song that was available on Spotify yesterday. Their stuff is pretty good, so I do look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

I was actually going to go with High, but for some reason, I hit Cuatro. I love High big time. Played it today instead!

F&J is a Top 10 band for me.

One of today's releases:

Commented on it in the Friday's releases thread...

And a couple of more power-oriented albums:

I have little to no knowledge of Firewind, despite seeing them mentioned all the time, of course. I went with their latest s/t and I really enjoyed it. Killer guitar work and vocals, unsurprisingly (given who's involved)

And - Triosphere! This is excellent! Why wasn't I told about them before ??  I think Jingle sent them in Ariich's roulette...goodness, this is a very, very tasty album. I did a search here on DTF after listening, and it looks like there's quite a bit of appreciation for them. I should check out their other records too.

Yeah, when I sent Triosphere to 425 I was told it was a too obvious choice.  I guess they're one of those bands a lot of people know about but don't talk about for some reason.

Interesting...yeah, I'm enjoying this a ton. The vocals are super-strong, and the guitar work is very tasteful.
