All great stuff there.

Tactical Neural Implant is really good. Haven't listened to it in forever.

Skinny Puppy is my kind of noise.
I love noise, but this was just confusing and weird, and not in a good way for me. I'm more of a dreamcrusher noise guy :neverusethis:

Stortregn - Evocation of Light

The band's second album (came out in 2013), compared to their more recent stuff this is way more influenced by 90s Gothenburg melodic death metal, with abundant doses of Dissection's mixture of death and black. More straightforward, perhaps, but this is REALLY good. Love the occasional acoustic work, and the "icy" melodies truly bring me back, what, almost three decades (!!)

1476 - In Exile

Quite a bit different than what I normally go for, this ended up being intriguing. As the band describe themselves, there's some folk, some punk, some, um, occult-ish rock/metal...all sprinkled with a good dose of melancholy, which hits the right notes. The overarching theme is kinda cool too. The vocals are somewhat of an acquired taste, but they actually work for what they are going for.

Luke - you might enjoy this. Ever heard of them?

Just getting to this Nick. It sounds like folky post-black metal sung by a combo of Davey Havok and Shane MacGowan! I was not prepared for this but interesting so far.

I guess that's what I was trying to convey with my description  I thought the folky-punky-whatever else combo might intrigue you...

It did me, actually. Have been enjoying this.

Yea man. I’m always up for a splicing of genres that on paper shouldn’t work. That being said, the vocals could be a sticking point.

Avenged Sevenfold - Life is but a Dream...
Yeah, I don't know about this one. If anything it makes me want to listen to Mr. Bungle, but nothing more. It's weird how it manages to sound both all over the place and predictable at the same time. I liked "Cosmic" and the title track a lot, though.
Doves - Lost Souls
Holy shit, where has this band been all my life? "The Cedar Room" might be one of my favorite British rock songs of all time.

Nice! I’d love to see all the classic Ed Repka album covers up close on vinyl.

Man, I hadn't listened to Theatre of Tragedy's debut in a long while. It certainly sounds a bit of its time, but I think its influence on the genre is hard to deny...

I've been really hyped to get this since they announced this.  It's really good.  I initially had some trouble getting into it because I've been listening to the singles for so long, but now I'm getting into the overall flow of the album, and it's really solid from beginning to end.  I hope this album sells millions!

Yesterday and today:

Rush - A Farewell to Kings
Rush - Clockworks Angels

Gave Rush another try but it's not for me. Great music but I can't get past the vocals on the earlier albums. Clockwork Angels works better with a more matured voice.

Further:
Haken - Fauna
Converge - The Dusk In Us
Evergrey - In Search of Truth
Archspire - Bleed the Future
Baroness- The Red Album
Mastodon - Leviathan
Riverside - ID.Entity

As one last attempt, may I suggest the Counterparts album (from 1993), if you haven't heard it yet? If you prefer Geddy's more mature voice, that's probably his peak, on top of hard hitting, guitar driven, but still deliciously melodic Rush music  :)

Haken - Fauna
Converge - The Dusk In Us
Evergrey - In Search of Truth
Archspire - Bleed the Future
Baroness- The Red Album
Mastodon - Leviathan
Riverside - ID.Entity

Lots of good stuff, and that one is my favorite Evergrey album. A mini-classic, if you ask me.

Plus a recent discovery, from a totally random recommendation:

Martriden - Cold and Silence

2015 album, band is from the US (I think this is their second or third?). Proggy, vaguely extreme metal (mostly because of the harsh vocals), very much in the vein of mid-to-late career Enslaved (especially in the riffing approach of the guitars). The playing is very tasty and overall the album is cool.

For some reason I never checked out George Clanton's debut album, and tbh I'm not missing out on much. Slide is just way better in every sense, and I'm quite hyped for the new album, which drops next week.
