Some very interesting recent prog (broadly defined), lots of it from DTF recs/posts:

As mentioned by Pfillion in the Friday releases thread, fans of Porcupine Tree and Opeth (the latter mostly for general "mood" and some riffs) should definitely give AVKRVST a listen. I'd say even those who are not fans of those bands, but generally like prog...yes, there are spots where the influence is strong, but the album is very good beyond that influence. They could probably do away with the harsh vocals (not that there's much of it)

I listened to the Anubis Gate at work on Friday so it was more background music, but it didn't do much for me. Seemed a bit mellow (boring). I could've missed something so I'll check it out a bit deeper since it's getting recommendations.

For some reason the AVKRVST wasn't available on Spotify Friday, just the singles. I listened to them but I'll give the album a listen to tonight hopefully.

Yep, Anubis Gate's music doesn't necessarily jump at you, but it does find a way eventually...at least this was my experience with the albums I've heard (the s/t especially). Early to say with this one, but I found it intriguing on first listen.

Curious to see what you think of AVKRVST (I have to check every time I type this)...part of me thinks you it might not totally appeal to you, but then again who knows...after listening to OK Goodnight I wouldn't have thought that either, and you are the one that recommended it

You never know what's gonna hit you. I like plenty of stuff a bit to the side. The OK Goodnight I thought was really interesting. It's not like it's some really whacked out music that I'd never get into. It incorporates plenty of what I like.

I'm actually really enjoying that Thantifaxath album. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it is good.

victory over the sun is the black metal aoty tho so, it has competition oops

I gave that Victory Over the Sun album a listen and it didn't really grab me. I'll have to give it another listen soon.

On the flip side, the new Anubis Gate really jumped out at me from the first listen. Really enjoy the album so far.
