Banged out four 2023 albums on the couch this morning..

The Cosmic Jaguar album is cool as shit. Has some slurpy vocals, but there's some great bass playing and some real interesting drumming. Nice guitar work too.

From their Bandcamp page I read "Avant-Garde Technical Thrash from Ukraine"...

...and on top of that, it's Aztec-themed?!  That sure is different!

You certainly piqued my interest, so I have it on as we speak...you weren't lying about the bass! This is intriguing. It does have a bit of that late 80s/early 90s technical thrash flavor.

Also - I'm trying to figure out "slurpy vocals"...Might be a language thing for me :lol

Sounds like the guy is trying to sing with a milkshake in his mouth.  :lol

I guess I'll have to try that out and see what it sounds like  :lol

So, this morning, obviously inspired by this thread:

Really enjoyed both. Suotana's album sounds downright..triumphant? Very sharp melodies, coming at you from all directions. And the Pressure Points' record is indeed incredibly well done. The melodies and guitar leads are so good. Luke - there is a lot to digest, but I didn't feel their latest is much of a drop off in quality vs. this one...maybe you were expecting more of a progression? I feel like False Lights maybe is a bit more "classic", with the songs generally having more breathing room (it sounds great, btw), but The Island has more variety...? I don't know, it's early to say. What I know, though, is that this was an excellent new discovery  :)

TAC

Glad you liked the Suotana!

Today's 2nd batch of albums..

Roc by Median is a Melodic (??) Black Metalish EP. The 13 min title track is excellent.

Moonscape is an epic hard rock progressive metal concept album about space travel. Clean vocals. Chad might dig this.

The Redshift is Progressive Metal. 85% clean vocals, 10 % harsh, and 5% female. Better produced Pyramid Theorem-ish. Very technical, but not math-y.

The All Against had harsher vocals than I remembered the first time through, but damn, it is pure METAL!!

Zierler is criminally underrated on Rate Your Music.

Quote from: TAC on April 30, 2023, 09:47:40 AMI'm not familiar at all with Enslaved. And this album doesn't motivate me..

I've heard a bunch of Enslaved albums.  They're usually good, but rarely great.

They get called the black metal Opeth, but I don't really see it.  There are some superficial similarities at times, but nothing I've heard comes near to those heights.

Zydar

I'm enjoying the 5.1 mix of Skylarking by XTC on my home theater system. Just glorious.

I'm not normally that into live albums, but World Wide Live is a great one.

Great band! I'll be seeing them in support of NOFX in a few weeks. Hang and Let's Talk About Feelings are my favourites. My first exposure was the song May 16 (which also happens to be my birthday) on the Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 soundtrack  :metal

World Wide Live sounds so doctored, it's unlistenable to me.

Most live albums are doctored, I get what you're saying but its very listenable to me. Ozzy Speak Of The Devil is a great album but its far from live.

Its also my Mother's birthday, she passed last year on Mothers Day a week before her 72 bday. On a less somber note, I love these guys now and seeing them with NOFX is absolutely EPIC!!!!! They're not playing near me unfortunately.
