Interesting, it's somewhere inbetween Messa, Windhand, and Lucifer.  I suspect people might say something like My Dying Bride, but other than having chamber strings and being doom I'm not there's that much resemblance, at least at first glance.  Maybe SubRosa, but I can't recall their sound right offhand.  But it'll definitely be a promising one to return to.

SubRosa is a band I've seen mentioned a few times and never explored. I have checked out the album by The Otolith (Folium Limina) that came out last year - several members of (now defunct, if I'm not mistaken) SubRosa are in it. It's interesting, but it didn't completely win me over, to be honest.

I tend to agree with your points of comparison, though. I do think there is a bit of that 90s doom/death metal sound in the album, but overall it takes a different direction (most obviously with the female vocals)

Yeah, I agree there's a bit of that in there, I just can't think of the proper influence without hearing it again and thinking about it more.  That's why I went for Lucifer, for closer to a traditional doom metal vocal delivery, not so operatic and/or ethereal.  Maybe Avatarium or someone similar might be an even better comparison, one of those retro occult/doom rock/metal bands from the past decade or so.  The lower range reminded me a bit of Dorthia in Windhand too.

This one is going to take longer to get into than Queen of the Wave, but "Placebo PCB-1" is a must-hear for any guitarists, it's hilariously loaded with in-jokes.

School's Out is one of my all time favorite albums, but 1972 is easily the worst year for music in the 70's.

Karnivool - Sound Awake
Karnivool - Asymmetry
Karnivool - Themata

I saw them live last week. Never heard a single song about one week ago but I love it. Fantastic live performance and I'm really impressed by the catchy songs combined with the technical skills. First discovery of 2023.

Further:
The Ocean - Pelagial
Haken - Vector

I don't have this album...I think the only song I've heard off it is Too Scared to Run

Today's commute...

(yep, my train on the way back was stuck for a while because of another disabled train ahead...that meant a longer commute  ;))

BTW, What do the good, prog-loving people of DTF think of Andromeda? This is the only album of theirs I own. Hadn't listened in so long, it might well have been the first time  ;) Actually, the song Reaching Deep Within I did remember. Clearly talented band, many good moments, but maybe a bit much...

Listened to them a ton back in the day.  Revisited an album or two a few years ago and I think it holds up reasonably well.

The only one I have is Extension Of The Wish. I haven't listened to it in ages, but I remember it being quite excellent.

I love Andromeda. I have all of their stuff. I do like the first album with the original singer over Dave Fremberg. Maybe its because I got Extension Of The Wish when it came out and got used to it. But after time I loved it with Dave and love everything since. I wish they were still around!
