Over the last couple of days:





A couple of highlights...the Veni Domine album, I hadn't checked out in SO long. One of those little prog metal gems from the early 90s. Actually, this has more than a subtle doom metal influence. Almost like early Queensryche-meets-Candlemass. And the long suite has a couple of moments that sound like a tribute to parts of Operation: Mindcrime. Good re-discovery.

The album by Excalion I came across in sort of a random way. Power metal from Finland, came out in 2017. Nothing groundbreaking, but very enjoyable. Brainwashed by While She Sleeps is also very cool - it's metalcore-ish, from England...not necessarily something I'd listen to often, but there's great energy and melodies in here.

My favorite Evergrey album. I remember being at Powermad festival in 1998 when they played. After their set they cracked open the boxes of that CD and I bought one from Tom directly. Very cool moment!!!

Not necessarily my favorite (that would be In Search of Truth, a mini-classic of "dark" prog metal), but certainly up there...very, very fond of it, and the first Evergrey album I've listened to.

It's Mantiis by a band called Obsidian Kingdom. Genre? Well I guess it's progressive post-black metal or something. Just give it a spin.

Correction: The album is Nest. War is the song which is my favorite of that album. Great album but not as consistent compared to Unison Life.

I would say Unison Life is their best yet. It still has the pure and raw energy of the earlier records but has more variety and sounds like they really took the time to find the best approach for each song.
