Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
Stone - No Anaesthesia!
Farmers Market - Surfin' USSR
Human by Nature (prog-infused psychedelic metal): https://linktr.ee/hbnearth
Our debut album "Eläimys" is a trip I can whole-heartedly recommend to anyone into Pain of Salvation, Opeth, The Mars Volta, Magma etc.

That album is so awesome!  It's their last album with their original singer (Christian Alvestam).  He was so good at what he does that after he left the band, they had to replace him with two singers (one clean, one growler).   :lol

A beast of an album and no one or two can replace Alvestam. I do like the albums without him but its not the same. Solution .45 put out 3 killer albums with him.

The Alvestam/Nilsson pairing in the first three albums is just untouchable.

Massive fan of both bands.  For Aeons Past is as good as any melodic death metal out there.  Both Walking State weren't as strong but still loved them.

I really loved the lineup back then though with Alvestam in SS.  Per and Jonas were a great guitar duo.  Jonas didn't get his dues and Per overshadowed him I felt.  he held his own.  Not in Per's league but quality solos.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

They had very contrasting styles which worked quite well.  He's probably one of the more underrated figures in the Swedish metal scene, at least by outsiders, he's had his hands all over so many great releases in some capacity or another.

100% agree! Aeons set the bar very high, I bought the Japanese version with the song Spirit Side Dreaming which is incredible! I do love both Waking State albums but they fell a little short compared to Aeons.

I think Aeons was so good, it was almost impossible to replicate the quality.  Especially after such a long lay off.

The Ocean - Holocene

Pleasantly surprised at how much I ended up liking this - it's one of the best albums they've made imo. It's not as loud or immediately gratifying as their past few albums, but it makes up for that with its moody atmosphere and well-executed electronic production.

I'm not sure if I like it more than Phanerozic I, they feel pretty much tied to me. But yeah, the sound of this one is a lot more creative than on those last two. I'm just glad the band hasn't yet ran out of that Good Album Juice they seemingly acquired for the first time in 2013. :neverusethis:

This thing smokes! wow, didn't know they could still put out something like this. The last 2 with Mike were...ok. But this has so much more aggression. Marc Lopes sounds great and the rest of band just sounds so much better on this. Can't believe they put out something so good after what they've been through.  Feel like im gonna be listening to this one a lot. :metal :metal

You seem to be more in line with the rest of the small fanbase for him on DTF, then it seems.  Though "Where Is Now?" and "Smile" throw some people for a loop at first.  Who Bit the Moon?, IV, and Eco work slightly better for me though.  Definitely check out the latter two and Ego sometime if you aren't burned out.
