You're a power metal fan, I know you've seen way worse.

I'll give you that, but at least it's power metal, you expect goofy ass covers.  Lost Horizon scoffs at this cover I know but this just makes me laugh.  I'll have to check these guys out to see what kind of music this is.  I'm intrigued.  :lol

It's poppy symphonic metal, so I doubt you'll be crazy about it.  It's heavier and with above-average guitar playing for the style, but it's still probably not going to be in your wheelhouse.  The genre has plenty of other cringey covers as well, so I don't think too much about them.  If you want to listen to a single song check out "Unstoppable".  If that one doesn't do anything for you I doubt most of the rest will.

Poppy symphonic metal with those masks? Never would have picked that.  I'll check that song tonight regardless.

Yeah, nah, that song was shite.  They should be signed to Frontiers.  This style of music with those masks is even more bizarre.

Yeah, unfortunately that's about what I figured you'd think.  Napalm Records has plenty of similar artists though, so I think they're fine there.  What did you think it was going to sound like based on the cover?

This album is turning out to be quite the beast of an album. Not an instant hit for me but a grower and those albums are usually the ones that stick with you the longest.

Kind of Blue by Miles Davis

I picked it up cheap because it’s literally the most critically praised and popular jazz album in history. After one spin, I’m not sure I get it. So I watched a video on what “modal jazz” is in hopes I could understand what was happening a little more. I’m going to try a few more spins because after watching that video I find the idea of modal jazz interesting. I’m going to see if I can pick up what they’re talking about on the next couple of spins.

Honestly, not too sure, I think that's why I checked it out.  Maybe more of a modern alternate Disturbed kind of sound with female vocals perhaps.

It's probably just a very nice and chill record, and a pretty accessible entry to jazz, or that kind of style at least. I often feel that jazz is mostly music for other musicians to appreciate rather than a broader public, which is not a bad thing at all, but can leave many puzzled when going into the classics.

Do you listen to much jazz?  If not, this is NOT where I would suggest you to start.  Definitely a challenging listen.

There are so many different strategies for getting into unfamiliar genres.  The depth one is certainly a possibility, picking a specific album, learning a lot about it, and really trying to explore it.  A diversification strategy can work, giving a shot to a number of other highly-regarded classics, say John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, Dave Brubeck's Time Out, and Charles Mingus' Mingus Ah Um.  Other times it might work better to pick a specific slant to come in from, for example, there's a history of rock fans getting in through Bitches Brew, since it has more rock energy and guitar, or even fusion albums from Return To Forever, Mahavishu Orchestra and such.

I have listened to some jazz, but this is my first dive into “modal jazz”.  I definitely get the impression that if you don’t know what’s going on it sounds fairly much like random noodling. But once I watched a video that explains how modal jazz was structured, it started to make a little bit more sense. I am fascinated by the idea, but it will take a few spins to decide if it’s some thing that resonates with me personally.

I basically chose that album because, let’s face it, it is kind of the dark side of the moon of its genre.

Kind of Blue is fantastic but I'm more of a Bitches Brew guy myself. That kind of jazz fusion where the songs are long jams with an almost progressive feel to them are more interesting to me than the more laid back 'lounge jazz'.
