Other than the Isole record (see above), the album from Witch Ripper very much piqued my interest. Very, very cool album. The band describe their own sound as influenced by both heavier bands like Mastodon and Baroness, and more theatrical rock. I can get behind that...the opener, Enter the Loop, sounds like, um, The Dear Hunter-meets-Mastodon. The Mastodon influence is strong on the second track, Madness and Ritual Solitude, but the album has enough of a unique sound to stand out, imo. And it ends super-strong with Icarus Equation and the long closer Everlasting in Retrograde. The progged-up, space rock finale is fantastic.
