The albums from the last ten years that would be serious contenders (ones that I'm pretty sure would be top 20 if not top 10), in reverse chronological order, are:

Iron Maiden - Senjutsu (2021)
The Neal Morse Band - The Great Adventure (2019)
The Dear Hunter - Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional (2016)
Coldplay - Ghost Stories (2014)
Haken - The Mountain (2013)
And if spirit's a sign,
Then it's only a matter of time

Tesseract's Altered State came out in 2013. So nine years ago.
This was the first thing that came to mind for me, though I don't have a top 10 albums set in stone.

I seems almost unanimous in prog forums for people to prefer that album.  I even saw them live on the tour for it with Ashe and love it ("Nocturne" especially), but I still prefer them with Tompkins, particularly on One.  That one is just outside of the past decade, but is another top 50 candidate for me.  Skyharbor's Guiding Lights is practically a stealth TesseracT album too and just as good.  Sastry is probably better than Postones.

I just do not get the love for Tesseract personally. I've been trying off and on with them for nearly a decade, tried many albums, saw them live (in support of Devin Townsend). They just seem so mediocre, and the thought of them being in someone's top 10 albums of all time blows my mind.

I know, tastes and all. I'm aware that I have many albums in my top 50 others around here would consider trash, so I can't talk.

I'm not quite this negative on them, but I agree with having a hard time thinking of them as a top 10 sort of band. I own and like Altered State, but it never blew me away and I rarely come back to it. I've listened to Sonder several times and think it has its moments, but never appealed to me enough to get me to buy it.

I actually enjoyed the first Voices from the Fuselage album more than either of those Tesseract albums. Several great songs on there. I keep meaning to check out their second one, too.

I just don't think there are many bands who do what they do at the level they do it at.  The off-kilter rhythms mixed with melodic vocals (and occasional harsh ones on One), the massive guitar sound, the ambient atmospherics, most other similar bands get at least one of those elements wrong for me.

Newish albums that are either in, or near, my top ten:

Anathema - Weather Systems (and We're Here Because We're Here, possibly)
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie and Lowell
Jason Isbell - Southeastern

So that's 2012 (2010) 2015 and 2013.

I think if I expanded the question to include top 30–50, I would find about 10 albums more recent than these, but most of my top 50 is dependent on consistent listening for a longer period of time.

My Top 10 had 2 DT albums already, otherwise ADTOE from 2011 would have made the cut. The Odyssey by Symphony X from 2002 would be the next most recent I think.

I don't even know what my top ten are.

This place likes to rank EVERYTHING.

It wasn't my fault, I was under the influence of jazz gummies when I thought of this thread.

My jazz gummy days ended decades ago....probably why all my 'high'est rated albums were from that time... ;)

From a Top 75 list, 'Images & Words', 'Six Degrees', 'Octavarium', and 'Distance Over Time' would be the most recent, and I didn't hear I&W until 2003.

A Top Twenty: probably 'Empire' in 1990

Top Ten:  something from the seventies
...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

If it's most recently released then uh, a long time. Probably 2013, as that year had both David Maxim Micic's Bilo III and The Ocean's Pelagial which are both definitely top 10 contenders.

If it's most recently discovered that'd be only two years ago when I started loving Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven.
Nice, those are some great albums. So, going by this formula, I'd say...

...most recently released: Anathema Weather Systems
This came out in 2012, and although it took some months to click, it has been a favorite of mine ever since.

...most recent discovery: Nine Inch Nails The Fragile
According to RYM this is my most recent 5 star, back in 2016 (actually that might be In the Aeroplane Over the Sea but I've known it for far longer than the NIN one lol). Although there have been plenty of amazing records since then, I feel that year was the peak of my development in music tastes, when everything felt fresh and new to me. Kinda miss those days, when I'd rip through a new album almost every day and find some gems in most of them.

But the thing with "top 10 albums" for me is that those records tend to take a lot of time to sink in and truly stay with me past the honeymoon phase, which might even last for years. Those are the ones I can go back to and really feel them intensely, no matter how long it's been since the last time to hit play. I should prob revisit some of my ratings now, hmmnn...

My top ten has been set in stone for well over a decade and the most recent album on it is Eric Johnson's Venus Isle from 1996.

I would rank this at 11375/47634 (at this moment)

I don't know what my top 10 would be, but besides Dark Side of the Moon, I would guess most of then are from the last 25 years, with at least 3 from the last 10 years.

Not sure what my actual top 10 is (apart from Awake by DT and Perfect Element by Pain of Salvation fighting it out for the very top), but I can name the most recent albums that might be in contention.

Leprous - Congregation - 2015
DT - A Dramatic Turn of Events -2011
Opeth - Blackwater Park - 2000

My top 10 can be different depending on the day but this album is the most recent that comes to mind.
