I'll try and narrow it down for the thread, but here's a link to my 1984 Spotify playlist I made a few years ago.

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1wGYDAki2KymgnMfKceHLU?si=72001a64c62f4c37

Wow, amazing, you’ve got it all covered. Metallica, Maiden, Dio, Queensryche etc. Was Defenders of the Faith in there? What a year to be 17.

Tim... the lack of Slade on your playlist shames you.

So, Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply is not on Spotify. However, The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome is (The Euro version released in 1983). I should add those songs to the 1984 list now that I think about it. I love KYHOMPS. I had it when it came out.

You're welcome.   :lol :lol

Such a solid album.  All killer, no filler.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

No love for Savatage boys?

Plenty of love for Savatage from me - I guess The Dungeons Are Calling is 1984, uh? I didn't have that right. Great stuff on that one, I might actually prefer it to Sirens, overall.

Random Number Generator pulled up the year 2013.

Billboard
Singles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Year-End_Hot_100_singles_of_2013
Albums: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_200_number-one_albums_of_2013

Rateyourmusic
https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/single/2013/
Albums: https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/2013/

A weird year, that I find has a lot of great tracks, but not that many sort of every week/month or even year tracks I go to as much compared to other years from their catalogs. Some exceptions of course. It's weird how this year and I suspect most of the last couple of decades especially, I don't think I'll be drawing that much from the Billboard or even Rateyourmusic charts given how little of the music I enjoy found those lists/demographics.

That being said, I really do love many tunes off Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, and it's funny how "Get Lucky" ended up just #14 on the Billboard list there for 2013, and yet I would consider it the best mainstream pop song of the last decade, lol. O well.

Re: Retro Songs/Tracks of the Year: 1976

1976

1976, the year I was born. A lot of Jazz Fusion and Classic Rock staples from that year. I suspect 2112 by default, would be the Song of the Year for many, and it is hard to argue as it is a masterpiece. But for me, Zeppelin never made a greater track with Achilles Last Stand, and some of the Jazz Fusion and Prog stuff was so great, I split hairs of course between them and 2112.

Going with my 3 per album rule (and most likely overlooking some popular songs from this year that I don't own). This was a pretty strong year with a lot of creativity.

Boston - Peace of Mind
Boston - Foreplay/Long Time
Boston - Rock & Roll Band
Camel - Song Within a Song
Camel - Chord Change
Camel - Lunar Sea
Genesis - Entangled
Genesis - Mad Man Moon
Genesis - Los Endos
Genesis - Eleventh Earl of Mar
Genesis - One For The Vine
Genesis - Blood On The Rooftops
Journey - It's All Too Much
Journey - She Makes Me (Feel Alright)
Journey - Look Into The Future
Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son
Kansas - Opus Insert
Kansas - Cheyenne Anthem
Rush - A Passage to Bangkok
Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town
Thin Lizzy - Fight or Fall
Thin Lizzy - Cowboy Song

TAC will probably fight me on the Thin Lizzy songs (that whole album is good though).

Not at all. The Cowboy Song is my favorite Thin Lizzy track, and even though it's a Classic Rock staple, The Boys Are Back In Town is still incredible, and I have never gotten sick of hearing it.

They also released a second album in 1976, Johnny The Fox. It's not as good as Jailbreak, but I still love it.
Best tracks are Don't Believe A Word and Massacre.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

IIRC, this is Kev's most favorite year in music.  Hope he doesn't break the forum with a post in here  :lol

Boston - the whole damned album
2112 - title track, naturally; I've also been partial to Something For Nothing as well
Triumph - Blinding Light Show / Moonchild
Styx - Crystal Ball
Styx - Mademoiselle
Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand
AC/DC - Dirty Deeds
AC/DC - Rocker
AC/DC - It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)
AC/DC - TNT
Aerosmith - Back in the Saddle
The Eagles - Hotel California
The Eagles - Life in the Fast Lane
The Eagles - Wasted Time
Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son
Kansas - Magnum Opus
Kiss - Detroit Rock City
Kiss - Shout it out Loud
Queen - Tie Your Mother Down
Queen - Somebody to Love
Rainbow - Stargazer
Rainbow - Tarot Woman
Bob Seger - Night Moves
Bob Dylan - Hurricane
Wings - Let 'em in
Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper
Steve Miller Band - Fly Like An Eagle
Steve Miller Band - Take the Money and Run
Heart - Crazy On You
Thin Lizzy - The Boys are Back in Town

There's a bunch from the Billboard top 100 list too.
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart"   Elton John & Kiki Dee
"Play That Funky Music"   Wild Cherry
"I'd Really Love to See You Tonight"   England Dan & John Ford Coley
"(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty"   KC and the Sunshine Band

2005

Rateyourmusic Charts:

Albums: https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/2005/

Billboard:
Singles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Year-End_Hot_100_singles_of_2005
Albums: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_200_number-one_albums_of_2005

2005 was a fantastic year for music, especially for Modern Progressive Art Rock. Several bands/artists released albums that were very ambitious, at times Concept albums. But with those, many of them included a plethora of songs that I highly enjoy and love going back to.

That is why 2005 not only is 1 of my favorite years in the 2000's for music, but overall. I find it includes many releases that I enjoy most in the artist's catalog.

This is a list of my favorite songs, splitting hairs/vaguely ranked. Although having spent a good portion of time over the last 2 weeks thinking about it, revisiting many of these, it's something I keep adding new tracks to the 2005 Songs of the Year Playlist on Spotify, that's it's more of a WORK IN PROGRESS, rather than fully definitive of course,

And many of these songs give me a ton of NOSTALGIA; per I sometimes feel like I'm back in 2005, or just long to when hearing them.

Man, I wanna get back to this at some point.  Maybe I can sneak in a year in-between rounds once the Katatonia discography discussion is done in a few weeks.

I haven’t gone through my collection yet, but I think I have a negative impression of this year, as several of the bigger releases really disappointed me that year. Octavarium, Deadwing, Octane, Ogre Tones, were all big disappointments at the time, though they all do have some songs I really like. Will have to dig a little further when I get a chance.
