Share a tasty drum groove/fill/sound
« on: October 08, 2022, 01:24:59 PM »
Similar to the "share a tasty guitar solo" thread, only for drums. Could be whole songs, or just that one really awesome fill that gets you every time, or maybe just a great snare tone that really grabs you or whatever

To start, here's Nick D'Virgilo getting a massive sound out of his drums. Particularly the first minute, but the groove on the second verse is also very cool (and a totally different feel).

Spock's Beard - Change: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7pv93AYCXA

And a clip of Nick doing the first part live (while singing!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUgUU9rM8oc

I’ve always loved the drums on Big Country’s “Wonderland”.  Don’t be fooled by how it starts, it’s the chorus where Mark Brzezicki really shines.

Everything about this.  The tone, the groove, how she keeps changing the meter and feel while retaining the same pulse, the fills.  It's even a good, catchy song despite being drum-centric and fairly technical.

Wow! Amazing stuff. I love that little crossover fill around 1:23 (as well as everything else).

I really need to check out more stuff from Big Country. I only know the one big hit, but I like their sound and it feels like it should be up my alley.

Leprous hasn't really connected with me yet, but Baard is a monster.  I've always loved this street drumming clip of him when he was still a teenager.

Pretty much anything Senri Kawaguchi does qualifies for this thread, but her going off after 4:05 on this one is some seriously God tier stuff...

LOVE Vinnie Colaiuta's drumming on this Satriani track:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM8LmzKca3k

The hi-hat work and the subtle bass drum patterns at the beginning are so tasty...and the ending too, with the ride and the toms...so good.

anything Vinnie plays on is great IMHO (he is one of my heroes).  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xljXIgE3wA here is one by my greatest inspiration, Jeff Porcaro.

Speaking of Vinne, here's my favourite video of Vinnie in action:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HyUfPWwlg4&ab_channel=TheFusionJunkie

I just love how he enters the stage in sweatpants and a grocery bag probably out havin a smoke. The music starts in a odd meter and he just sits down wipes his glasses and joins in and were off for a display of full control on everything drumming. It's a masterclass in groove, time, spontaneity, creativity, presence and so much more.

So many videos I could post in here but a fun one I always go back to is Dave DiCenso shredding back in the day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aHWSF45SoM&ab_channel=DRUMMERWORLDbyBernhardCastiglioni

Yea he makes that groove sound so simple but it really isn't. Especially if you're gonna play all the accents and embellishments he does.

Such a catchy song...the drums on this caught my ear right away, and I was super happy to see there was a video. He has such a unique style!
