^^ Oooo, I actually didn't know that.  I do like the two main songs from that album, Nice to Know You and Wish You Were Here, the most from what I heard from them.

It's a really good Incubus album and a huge hit for them.  Besides those two songs, Are You In?, Circles, and Warning are big live staples for the band.  Echo is also on that album and the song they rotated in for the NJ show.  Really cool and chill song.  As much as I bitched about it being rotated it, it's a really good song.  They just rotated out a song (Glass) that I really wanted to see.  And of course the epic chill song Aqueous Transmission which is really the track that sold me on them when I first saw them live in 2002 and they ended the show with it.  Just blew my mind as a teenager seeing them do it live and the feeling you get from listening to that one.

Copied from the Band Maid thread...

Ok...some longer thoughts now that I've gotten some sleep...

Arrived at the venue at 9am, and there were already about 40 people in line, BM fans are obsessive that way, they even have their own merch for the Dawn Patrol. 10 hours in 100 degree Sacramento sun isn't ideal, but we survived with a shit ton of water and the parking lot being right next to us so we could chill in our cars at times. Got into the venue and the show started promptly. And the girls jumped into four ripper tracks right out of the gates, with Domination leading off and the ever amazing Play as well. A brief hello from Miku and they blasted through four more tracks. Another longer MC from the other girls, a quick q&a session and some minor shenanigans all to take a brake and give Miku's voice a rest. Next were six tracks, including some of their more mellow stuff in the middle where the crowd surprised the band by all having glowsticks and made a sea of multi-colored lights. It was obvious Saiki was really touched by this and was a very cool moment. This part ended with the ripper duo of Dice and Hate?, with the now infamous duel between Misa and Mincho. Then came the long MC period where Miku does Omajinai time, this is a traditional part of the show and is always hilarious in how the other girls troll the shit out her during it, it was about 20 minutes, and led right into the final six songs finishing off with the live debut of their latest single Shambles.

The girls are easily one of the tightest sounding live bands out there, not a note is missed, and Saiki's leads are absolutely massive, she's a true force of nature. I managed to score a Miku pick, and a fantastic time all around. Definitely in contention for show of the year.

Picked up tix for Dragonforce... the other three shows I wanted to buy tix for are all at the same venue, and the AXS site that they're being sold on is being a total dick this morning. I'll wait to the afternoon to see if it gets better, but we're talking Kamelot, TesseracT, and Atarashi Gakko all waiting.....grrr...

In the meantime, Voice of Baceprot tonight!!!!

3 King Gizzy shows in a row, damn son! I’m jealous. I saw them for the first time earlier this year and would happily see them every time they play the UK from now on. Highlights from the shows you went to?

Your sentiment of jealousy is one many of us can relate to. The experience of witnessing a band that resonates with us on a profound level can be akin to tasting a rare nectar – it leaves an indelible mark on our hearts and senses, forever altering our perspective. It's as if those performances have become points of reference in the timeline of your life, markers that signify growth, change, and an intimate connection to a musical journey.

To put it mildly, it was a masterclass in polyrhythms and syncopation. King Gizzard's ability to seamlessly switch between intricate time signatures while maintaining an infectious groove was nothing short of astonishing. The crowd at Red Rocks surrendered to the pulsating beats, their bodies moving in unison to the hypnotic rhythms. The band's on-stage chemistry was palpable, and their energy radiated to every corner of the amphitheatre, creating an unforgettable communal experience.

Welcome aboard DTF sir, with reviews like that I’ll be signing you up to preach the word of Gizz to the masses. You have eloquently put into words what makes this band so special. Is it bold to assume your experience was enhanced by mind altering substances?

Just went on a little ticket buying spree since whatever was blocking me this morning isn't anymore. Picked up Kamelot and Tesseract, and added Monuments on a Friday night in a small club up in Sacto...know a bit of their stuff, not much, but for $25 it should be worth it...

Feb 26- Riverside, Cornerstone in Berkeley-  8/10, good show overall, but set got cut short due to Mariusz being sick.
March 7th - Nemophila, Goldfield Trading Post, Sacramento- 10/10, fucking perfect.
March 8th - Nemophila, Great American Music Hall, San Francisco- 9/10, front and center, but sound was off
April 14 - Spiritbox & Intervals, Ace of Spades, Sacramento-10/10, all bands fucking crushed it
May 4th - The Warning, The Fillmore- 10/10, Flawless performance by the headliners in a historic venue.
May 6th - Bloodywood, Sacramento- 11/10, holy fuck what an evening!!
May 11th - Rolling Quartz, Bottom of the Hill- 10/10, definitely gets the award for biggest surprise of the year
May 21st - Love and Rockets, Fox Theater, Oakland- 7/10, Fun show, not a massive fan of the band, but free tix and good music is always a win.
May 25th - Haken, August Hall, San Francisco- 10/10, Haken always delivers.
June 30 - Tarja UC Theater, Berkeley- 8/10, The girl can definitely sing...
July 9th - Asterism, The Observatory, Santa Ana- 10/10, Arguably one of the best guitar virtuoso displays I've ever seen, and from a 20 year old at that.
August 14 - Band-Maid, Ace of Spades, Sacramento- 11/10, A perfect evening on all fronts po!!!
August 18 - Voice of Baceprot, New Parish, Oakland
September 1 - Kamelot, San Francisco
September 29 -
October 6 - Babymetal, Avatar, Pantera, Korn, Polyphia, et al.. Aftershock Festival, Sacramento
October 31 - Tesseract, Intervals, Regency Ballroom, San Francisco

Now it's time to head to Oakland for Voice of Baceprot!!!

Voice of Baceprot was a very solid show...some good hard rock with a slight punk edge. Skilled instrumentals across the board, especially the bassist who really carried the sound of the band, and they were very charismatic. Also easily the shortest band I ever saw, I'd bet anything none of them were over 5' tall, and the drummer couldn't have been 4'8". The stage was elevated up to above my knees and I was still eye level with just below their shoulders. Overall a great evening.

So... The opening band last night was these guys from LA called Damnage. They were fun and energetic. Musically sound even if the vocals were a bit rough, but they were having a good time.

Find out later that the guitarist and bassist are in Lady Gaga's band and this is their for funsies side gig lol.

Saw 3 shows last week that I'll need to write some reviews for, but I'm too tired to do so having flown into Germany over night and been working all day.

I did want to say I completely fucked up on Saturday night by not trusting my gut.  Tommy Karevik (singer of Kamelot) was just chilling on a NYC street corner as I walked past him and I recognized him, but I turned the corner quickly, pulled out instagram, and confirmed the wedding ring to know it was him and I think he noticed me being stalky and started walking away from me the moment I knew for sure it was him and I didn't want to go chase him.  I think I was just so thrown off that he was just chilling there by himself very close to the venue about 30 minutes before the show started. I plan on doing the Kamelot meet and greet at Progpower soon so not a huge deal and I wasn't going to bother him for like a picture, I just would have liked to say Hi and a comment about Progpower or something.  He is my favorite singer after all.  Lost opportunity because I didn't just trust my instincts that it actually was him.

Cram running down the street in NYC:  "Tommy!!  Tommy!!  I'm a BIG FAN!!!"  :) :) :)

I saw Randy George (of Neal Morse's Band) walking on the street in Boston before their show; he had a "Neal Morse Band" beanie on, though, so I didn't have to google.   He was very kind and seemed interested in talking.

I met Tommy once before and will again, so not worth the awkward Chase.  My understanding is Tommy is kind of a shy guy.  I don't get the feeling he really wants to chat too much beyond a few quick nice words maybe.  (I told him previously he was my favorite singer and seemed to really take that to heart and a bit surprised)

The funny thing, shortly before this, my friends were all joking how Taylor Swift was in NJ the previous night for a wedding and all these people showed up to try and see her causing a lot of issues.  I agreed with my friends there, that these people are just people and shouldn't be idolized so much to go chase them, and well, yeah, I said it and held to my word a few hours later  :lol

Unless I happen to run into someone I'm a huge fan of, I try to stay chill and distant but still acknowledge them. When I saw Bloodywood, Jayant and Raoul were just chilling on a patio of a pizza place a few doors down from the venue. I totally recognized them, made eye contact with Raoul, and just nodded, smiled and threw him the horns. He reciprocated in kind. It's nice to let them know how metal as fuck they are without being creepy.

No clue how I'd react if I met someone like Nemophila... Guaranteed I'd just chicken shit the fuck out and stare at them from a distance till they called the cops on me lol

Considering they are like what, 18, 19? And you're...considerably older?  :lol

I've met a few folks randomly. David Draiman from Disturbed, they were playing my area on the Indestructible tour. Must have been 2008/2009? I know what hotels they all stay in, so around 10 that morning, I went for a walk, figuring they may be out and about, and we almost ran into one another. He turns to go the other way, I say his name, and he says "yes?" I just told him I really loved Believe and Ten Thousand Fists. I had on a leather jacket and a pewter tri-ryche from Queensryche on my lapel, and he said "I love Queensryche." Took a pic with him, and told him some of the nicer routes to walk. That was a nice exchange. I shared the pic on here years ago.

My wife though -- she spots people so often in random places. We were once at a Sevendust show, and she nudges me and said - isn't that David Wells (MLB pitcher). Wells was pitching for the Padres at the time, and we're in San Francisco. I say nah...turns out, it was him. Headed up top to VIP, and Lajon from 7D acknowledges him during the show. Another time, in 2003, on the QR/DT/Fates Warning tour, Ray Alder (this is before I met any of them) is grabbing a hot dog at the stand at the venue (we've just finished watching Queensryche soundcheck), and I chickened out and didn't want to meet him. then I became a huge fan. Years later, I've met the FW guys numerous times, and they are wonderful. I always forget to tell Ray that story.

What I've noticed is...the smaller acts...most of them don't care, as long as you're not an embarrassment. A nod and the horns (I did that to Chuck Billy from Testament and he did it back), or a quick - hey, can't wait for the show tonight, have a great one, etc., is always met positively. It's folks that can't control themselves that are a problem.

I've been in a position to be...hanging out with some famous musicians when they encounter regular fans randomly. And it's weird to watch the interaction. Grown men and women in their 40s and 50s acting so bizarre. But for the most part, every rock star I've met understands how awkward it can be for some, and do their best to make people who are starstruck feel good about the chance meet up.

They're actually all in their late 20s and early 30s.

People that read my posts knows that I once unintentionally met Alter Bridge's Myles Kennedy at the airport in Orlando and we were in the same plane going from Orlando to Raleigh and I had a chance to speak to him at the baggage claim section and he's an awesome person to chat with.  That being said, if I had that opportunity to do that a 2nd time or to chat with anyone else in Alter Bridge, I don't think it's going to be as good as the first time.  I'm not a great conversationalist and I would think there's a line on how many times to say how awesome they are and it gets tiresome.

Unless we can talk about something like World of Warcraft or hockey, I'm just the background guy and will interject in a conversation when it fits when it comes to meeting well-known people.

Catching up on the shows from last week....

Last week on Tuesday I saw The All-American Rejects and New Found Glory.  This didn't go so well for us as it completely downpoured for a significant part of the show.  And sadly, it broke my camera!  >:( I think some water got into the microphone and permanently damaged it.  So while almost all my NFG clips came out, NONE of my AAR did. Really sucks because the camera isn't cheap.

New FOund Glory are not really my thing, but they can be enjoyable live.  I can't help but think the singer was using some sort of autotune though.  He just didn't sound real, but he was definitely live.  He sounded nothing like when I saw them two years ago.  Their guitarist mentioned he's battling cancer so he stood for a few songs, sat for a few, and then eventually said he's got to stop becuase he just can't do the whole set.  The band clearly was prepared and had the guitarists from Four Year Strong AND the guitarist from A Day To Remember to fill in when he couldn't perform.  Thought that was really cool and pretty emotional to see someone battling for their life still come out and do their best.  Much respect for that.  I'll also add their covers of Kiss Me and Let It Go may be my favorites from their set.

We spent the first couple songs of TAAR set hiding near concessions to avoid the downpour.  It did stop and we watched the rest of their set.  I honestly was not too into it.  They have a couple songs I enjoy, but their set felt very generic, just playing the songs.  No stage show.  Nothing unique or interesting.  Honeslty, given my camera, I kind of wish I just didn't go, but I had the lawn pass so I wanted to use it.

Luckily my old camera still (mostly) works.  I got a new camera because the focus broke on my old camera, it still works, I just can't zoom in like I would normally do.  So I was able to get videos from the next two concerts...

NFG was one of the first shows I ever saw years and years ago. I didn't realize he was fighting cancer, big props to him for coming out and doing as much as he could.

Pulling an audible on my October plans... Thinking of bypassing the all day Aftershock event and instead heading to LA to see Hanabie at the Whisky A Go Go the night before. I'd much rather see them in a small club environment.

Not my thing, but I know people love them (including my brother).  I think they are playing in NY today?  My brother's friends were all going and invited me but I couldn't go.  I've never seen them live, so I'd check it out, but generally the jam band thing isn't my cup of tea.  Their shows are loved though so I feel like I should go if the opportunity is there.  It's just not easy to get tickets and since it's not my thing, I'm not interested in paying a lot.

i've seen 'em about 50 times. if you just go someone in the parking lot would probably miracle you (give you a free ticket) or you would find one inexpensive. Though, those NY shows are special benefit concerts for the Vermont Flooding so i am not sure if those tickets are any harder to find due to it
