Not even halfway through a potential 50 and already my Top15 are drawn from 10 different albums.  This is much harder than anticipated.

And I might add, returning to Long Day again was a pleasant surprise dug the album a ton back when but even better than I remember it to be \m/

Only 1 from PS is surprising too I must say.

Its placement might be surprising too..

So it's number 50 or number 1, got it.  :lol

So you put Chasing Time at #1 eh?

If so is not a laughing matter quite understandable if I do say so myself 😁

I only say that because TAC's been chasing time ever since he emerged after being buried in a time capsule for 30 years.

Except that Tim actually had TWO PS songs on his list.

I had to reject a list, so a friendly reminder to proof your lists before submitting.   :)

pg1067

Four lists are in (the one rejected list was fixed and resubmitted).

- Only 11 songs (one from the Arch era and two from the post-APSOG era) have been mentioned on every list.

I haven't started on mine.  I'm going to have to use the ranker I think.  I can't even really spitball a top 10, so many great songs with so much variety and depending on the mood is what I might feel like reaching for.

I'll do it on this upcoming weekend.

... Man, I want to participate in this so bad if there's still time to sign up, but I'll have such a hard time making my list.

Either way, I guess this is just the excuse I need to re-listen to the whole discography over the next few days. :lol

For a generally pretty accessible album, Mark Zonder is phenomenal on Inside Out.

Mark Zonder is phenomenal period. He is my favorite FW drummer by far.

The only time I saw FW was on the Inside Out tour and I stood literally about 6 feet from him. The stage was quite low so my knees were almost above the stage floor, so I could look clearly into his kit. The club/stage was so small. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera as I decided to record the show instead, and it came out shitty on top of it.

I was surprised to see him use the traditional grip on his left hand stick. I thought that was cool as hell.

Zonder was the first drummer other than Neil Peart who really grabbed my attention visually.  He had a very cool style.

Only time seeing FW live was on DT's Awake tour, so around the same time. Their opening set was amazing, it truly cemented how much I loved the band. Agreed on Zonder - his drumming especially on the more "accessible" FW albums is such an important component, and really elevates the material. Subtle and complex, but always serving the songs well.

I've got 6 shows under my belt.

11/19/89, 5/12/90 and 5/13/20 - Three shows in support of Perfect Symmetry.  The two B2B shows were a co-headlining thing with a band called Sanctuary.  I remember at the first show Ray's voice was somewhat shot, but it was the first time I heard Fata Morgana, which was a big treat.  We also got Static Acts, the Apparition and the entirety of The Ivory Gate of Dreams.

12/8/94 - Opening for Dream Theater.  Per MP's Tourography, "This show was designated as the end-of-tour shenanigans show as the following night would be a high profile show.   At this show, DT threw food and silly string onto the stage during Fates Warning's set, while Fates Warning delivered a pizza, and drove remote control cars on stage during DT's set.  They also came out dressed as elves, complete with a miniature Stone Henge [sic] (a la Spinal Tap) during Voices and when Mike threw up a drum stick, 20 would fall on top of him.  Oddly enough, Don Was was at this show with his son."  Seeing the two bands play together was something special.

3/19/10 - Parallels reunion show.  This has to be one of the highlights of my concert going life.  After not having seen them for 16 years, I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were on fire.  I was right up on the stage.  In addition to all of Parallels, we got four songs from IO, and the closed the set with Monument.  As opposed to when they played it in '94, they didn't bring out an acoustic guitar for Jim's solo.  Unfortunately, all I have are a few really grainy Blackberry photos.

12/7/13 - Supporting DIADL, and one of only two concerts I've ever traveled for.  The LA area show was on a work night, so I flew to Phoenix for the Mesa, AZ show, and a friend and her family drove out from Albuquerque and we met up at the show.  Quietus and APSOG XI back-to-back was amazing, and I gained a bit of appreciation for a couple Disconnected/FWX songs.

Unfortunately, I missed them on the TOF tour, so I'm hoping we get at least one more batch of shows one of these days.

Speaking of IO...since this countdown obviously put me in a Fates mood, I'm toying with the idea of getting the expanded version of IO that came out, what, ten years ago? Anyone here has it, by any chance? How is the video portion of it?

Pretty sure I have this.  Couldn't tell you much about it but I'll try and find it.

Yeah, I do have it.  From memory I don't think the live perfromances were anything to write home about and I think the live DVD were all bootlegs from different shows.  I'd have to check the DVD and second disc again but I don't remember being blown away by it.  Saying that, I never am, I used to just buy these editions as part of the collection.

I'll double check the DVD for you mate later but don't think it was anything special or pro shot.
