I like this singer a lot. Her performance hits all the right emotional beats.

I think there are 4 female fronted acts in these selections.  I'm not sure this is mine though.

This has the sound I sort of expect to hear submitted by this person, but with a proggy slant I quite like.

Maybe this one? If not then mine isn't in this batch.

Impressions #1, 2, 3 & 6 could potentially apply to King Crimson. They’re a bit too vague (which is fine).

Pretty sure there are five.

All the impressions are just a bit too vague.  Half of them rely on inside information relating to what 425 has already heard of the artist, so it doesn't really give me much to go on.  Some will make more sense retrospectively, but trying to apply them to 18 different bands (almost a third of which I know very little about, and less than a third that I would say I'm deeply familiar with) is challenging.

Also, I haven't kept up with what best practices are for impressions: Do people like it when the host confirms guesses as correct or incorrect, or is it better to leave it a mystery?

Yes, confirm as we go!

And you can start by confirming that I am not in these first six impressions.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Songs of this particular type can struggle to be memorable to me, but these songs caught my interest right off the bat.

To the people who think these are too vague and aren't happy about it: Can you give me an example of the type of impression you would want to see? I get this comment every time I do impressions, and I think it's that I genuinely don't know what people want.

I mean, I could get really specific and say something like "the guitar solo at the 5-minute mark is my favorite part," but I sort of feel like that defeats the purpose.

Correct.

#3 is King Crimson.

For the record I have no problem with your first impressions. It's fine they are a little vague, you don't want to give the game away.

The whole point is that it is just your first impressions. You could just write "This sucks" and it would be a valid first impression for what Reap and Wolfking sent you.

I wouldn't worry and overthink too much. Someone's always gonna grumble, especially with this crowd  :lol

Hmmmm, I may not be in this first six, but if I am, it could be any of these except for one:

They clearly have their own distinct sound, but not sure I like the vocals enough for them to stand out within this genre.
Songs of this particular type can struggle to be memorable to me, but these songs caught my interest right off the bat.
This is definitely the best foot forward of a band that I’ve had mixed feelings about. Not sure it'll be enough.
This has the sound I sort of expect to hear submitted by this person, but with a proggy slant I quite like.

I like this singer a lot. Her performance hits all the right emotional beats.
Much more sedate and melody-focused than I remembered this artist being, which is tentatively a good thing.

I'll make one clarification on this one:

Songs of this particular type can struggle to be memorable to me, but these songs caught my interest right off the bat.

"This particular type" is deliberately somewhat vague, but it's not referring to a touchy-feely sort of distinction. The "type" is something that everyone would recognize and agree is a distinct type of song.

I wouldn't say I'm not happy about it, I just don't think it makes for an effective guessing game like hangman does.  It just serves to whet the appetite, which is perfectly fine.

Glad to hear it. :tup

Here's second first impressions:

I have no idea what to make of this at this point. Something strange yet interesting about it.

Not feeling the emotional connection I think I’m supposed to with this artist. I guess we’ll see if that changes.

An everything-including-the-kitchen-sink song! I admire the ambition; subsequent listens will tell how well I like the execution…

This is a sound I really like—definitely within my comfort zone—and my first impression of the songwriting is positive.

Interesting chill-ish sound, but I'm not connecting with the songs yet. Hopefully they'll be growers.

I just don't think this band's sound is likely to be for me.

Good news!

Well, that's a relief.  Kind of antsy to hear what you think about everything else about those tracks (and possibly the opinions of other participants as well), but given that I'm in group E, I imagine that could still be a week out.
