Interesting batch of tracks.

I'm already third in my pool. :lol
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I'm already third in my pool. :lol

I listed them alphabetically (except for Pool C where I messed up), so that's really your fault for not changing your name to Austin or Aaron.

Frank Lucas, wow, another name I haven't heard in forever.  He used to post on the Jordan Rudess forum.  I see he's the keyboardist in The Cyberiam now.

At least I'm not in pool C or F.  But I might come out last anyway, two of those DLC tracks are killer, and Seven Spires is growing on me.  Risky pick though.

That's cool!

I didn't know about them until a few months ago when Keith Semple opened for Riverside. He played stripped down versions of their songs. I checked out the studio stuff and was really impressed. Good stuff  :metal

Not a band I know much (re : anything about).  As you are in my group and therefore one of my mortal enemies for at least a couple of weeks, I hope they suck  ;D

They might, but I'm hoping he hates the growls and blasts in Seven Spires.  :D

In round A I'm obviously rooting for Katatonia, even though they don't completely fit his criteria.  Deftones have some outstanding tracks, though the selected ones aren't really favorites of mine.  The Killers aren't my sort of thing, though the guitar arpeggios on "Mr. Brightside" are beautiful and fun to play (but that song isn't in the pool).

They're a really curious phenomenon.  They don't really have anything to do with the prog world, but a lot of prog fans eat them up.  Of all the different synth/electropop groups, I'm not sure why them and not others, but their first and latest albums are fantastic.

"Deliverance" is an amazing song, but I haven't had the motivation to go back to the rest of Love Is Dead in quite awhile.  I also want to revisit Every Open Eye again sometime.  I listened to it a number of times when it came out, but it just didn't click with me like it did with others.

I don't know 425 at all, aside from the Kamelot avatar, so my first pick has Roy Khan as guest vocalist - I'm hoping that is more or a positive than the growls are a negative, or I'm screwed!!

Going through my documents, it wasn't sent to me, but it was during K-lox's roulette's (which I apparently replaced you halfway through) second round by these two:

Bolsters: CHVRCHES
1. The Mother We Share
2. Gun
3. Graffiti
4. Wonderland
5. Never Say Die

Shadow Ninja 2.0: CHVRCHES
1. The Mother We Share
2. Lies
3. Clearest Blue
4. Leave a Trace

These were my two Cat-pressions for these songs.

Seriously, I'm almost convinced to put soupytwist last just for forgetting March of Mephisto and Memento Mori.

Lol.  Fair point!.....and if you rank me last because of it i'm sure I'll not be bitter and send you the worst music I can find for rounds 2 & 3 - knowing you'll have to listen to it at least three times ☺️

Hmm, I had forgotten about those songs, but I'm a pretty casual Kamelot fan.  "When the Lights Are Down" is always the song I come back to from TBH.  "March of Mephisto" is cool as well, another nice Johansson solo I hadn't remembered, but Shagrath's vocals are kind of buried on the track, so no wonder I didn't recall them.

"The Mother We Share" is one of my favorite CHVRCHES tracks.  "Lies" is great too.  "Gun" took awhile to grow on me, but I like it now.  The others are just ok for me, they have many others I prefer.

I'm hoping Epitaph is too depressing for 425

I actually went with the live versions (go listen to those, they're on the 'Meltdown' album) for that reason. Really cool versions of both tracks. There's a bunch of awesome renditions of King Crimson tunes on that one, but I could only do 15 minutes, which was roughly these two tracks combined.
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

Alright, here's one set of impressions. I'm trying to balance being too vague and being too specific. I figure I'll do these in batches of six. Note that there's just one impression for each submission. Sometimes this will focus on a specific song, sometimes on the submission as a whole.

Also, I haven't kept up with what best practices are for impressions: Do people like it when the host confirms guesses as correct or incorrect, or is it better to leave it a mystery?

First six below.

They clearly have their own distinct sound, but not sure I like the vocals enough for them to stand out within this genre.

Songs of this particular type can struggle to be memorable to me, but these songs caught my interest right off the bat.

This is definitely the best foot forward of a band that I’ve had mixed feelings about. Not sure it'll be enough.

This has the sound I sort of expect to hear submitted by this person, but with a proggy slant I quite like.

I like this singer a lot. Her performance hits all the right emotional beats.

Much more sedate and melody-focused than I remembered this artist being, which is tentatively a good thing.
And if spirit's a sign,
Then it's only a matter of time
