My PC is a wild magic sorcerer, so this gets said a lot. :P

WIP of a dungeon I will be running in my next session. Idea is that its an ancient Dwarven forge and the characters will have to find a mould and turn on some machinery to smelt and forge an artefact.

I don't have time to play much any longer. But I am a big fan. Started with the original D&D box sets in the 80s. Dragonlance is my favorite setting. Love that it is back and Weis/Hickman are writing. I noticed a new sourcebook is going to come out later this year for Dragonlance. Pre-ordered it.

I do have the PS4 remakes of various Forgotten Realms games. Love those. Miss my RPG days. My closest friend growing up (who I played D&D with) passed about 15 months ago. Always think of him when I see/hear things about D&D.

It was just a mild joke referencing that most houses in America these days have a TV. It was funnier in my head.  :)

Ah, sorry, thought there was a reference I wasn't getting.

I bought one of those 'made to order' campaigns and am going to DM that for them. Going to ditch the pre-made characters though and let them roll/create their own.

So, finally getting around to this tomorrow. Going to start a campaign DM'ing for my kids and their friends. The pre-made campaign is "Lost Mine Of Phandelver"....it's supposed to be a pretty good one for 'beginners' both player and DM. So, looking at starting around 3:30pm tomorrow and I think I've prepped enough and read enough to have a good solid 5-6 hour session to get going on this.

I liked how they're thrown right into a 'little' battle.....then, if they succeed in noticing the trail can get to that cave for a fun time. I'm more nervous about making sure I DM it correctly and well being it's been a hot minute since I've done any of this  :lol

Just remember, as long as everyone has fun it's alright to make mistakes :)

I thought the real DM work in that module was to portrait Phandalin NPCs and make them (and the town) feel alive. That's what I spent most of my prep time on, and apparently it showed - my friends said they really liked the town part of the adventure.

I just finished off DMing my campaign. I ended up killing off my own PC during the climax. :lol

Serves you right for having a DMPC.

I created a map for my next one-shot.

Our group has a system whereby we rotate the DM between the four of us each campaign, and usually find an excuse to get rid of them. I instead made my PC get infected by the curse that was blighting the land to give them motivation to get going. :P In the end though she ended up as an undead which the PCs were controlling using a magic wand, and ended up dying with the rest when they eventually managed to lift the curse. I wasn't running the character myself.

Awesome thread guys. I've always been D&D curious but I didn't even know where to begin or how the mechanics of the game really work. I'd love to find a group to play with sometime.

Are you familiar with Roll20? It's a virtual tabletop, and sometimes I combine that with Discord to run D&D games. I'm not opposed to doing a DTF one shot at some point. (A one shot is a game that resolves itself in a single session rather than a weeks or months long campaign). I love helping new players.

No, I've never heard of Roll20. Stupid question but is it like tabletop simulator?

Yes, it's a virtual tabletop (VTT). Essentially allows you to play games on computer, while also making gameplay a bit easier as it will often integrate and automatically resolve a lot of the rules for individual spells and actions. Foundry is also a good system but you need to self host it, so roll 20 is easier to get into.
